Workshop on International Disease of Coding Held at SKMCH, Muzaffarpur, Emphasizing Improvement in Health Data

An important workshop regarding International Disease of Coding was organized at Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) located in Muzaffarpur district, Bihar. Keeping in mind the growing modernization and importance of data management in the medical field, this workshop featured a detailed discussion on making the healthcare system more transparent, accurate, and organized. Several enlightened doctors and healthcare workers of the medical fraternity were present during the program.

Mandatory to Write Codes on Disease Prescriptions: Dr. Ranjit Kumar

Addressing the workshop, keynote speaker Dr. Ranjit Kumar placed special emphasis on the fact that the time has now come for doctors in hospitals to write designated disease codes on patients' illness prescriptions. He clarified that instead of merely writing the name of the disease on a prescription, doing its international coding should become an essential part of the medical workflow. This not only enhances the readability and clarity of the prescription but also brings uniformity in the classification of various diseases.

Improvement in Health Data

During the workshop, Dr. Ranjit Kumar underlined that adopting the International Disease of Coding system will bring an unprecedented improvement in the health data of our country and state. At present, errors often remain in data due to manual entry or unclear handwriting, making it difficult to assess the exact disease. When a definite and internationally accepted code for every disease is recorded, hospitals will have an accurate and digital database of patients, which can be utilized in shaping future health policies.

Help in Disease Prevention and Research

Implementing the coding system will not only ease data management, but it will also prove helpful in formulating solid strategies for the prevention of various infectious and critical diseases in the future. When accurate and clear data on diseases is available to the health department at the block, district, and state levels, the outbreak of epidemics or specific diseases can be controlled in a timely manner. Furthermore, this standardized data will also be immensely beneficial and reliable for researchers working in the fields of medical research and clinical trials.
