Saharsa: A major theft incident has come to light in the Refugee Colony area of Saharsa district, where thieves targeted a general store and escaped with goods worth lakhs of rupees along with cash. The incident reportedly took place on Wednesday, July 8. The thieves broke the asbestos sheet on the roof of the shop, entered inside, and stole goods worth around ₹2 lakh and ₹50,000 in cash.

After the incident came to light, the shop owner and local residents expressed anger and concern. People demanded that police patrolling in the area should be increased and that non-functional CCTV cameras should be repaired and made operational immediately. Residents said that due to weak security arrangements, incidents of theft are increasing in the locality.

Thieves Entered Shop After Breaking Asbestos Roof

According to information, the incident occurred late at night at Sandhya General Store located in Refugee Colony. Instead of entering through the main door, the thieves broke the asbestos sheet on the roof of the shop and entered inside.

After entering the store, the thieves searched through the shop and stole cash kept from sales. They escaped with goods worth approximately ₹2 lakh and ₹50,000 in cash.

The shop owner came to know about the incident when he arrived to open the shop in the morning. Seeing the condition of the store, he was shocked. The roof was damaged, and goods inside the shop were scattered. He immediately informed nearby residents about the incident.

Shop Owner Suffers Heavy Financial Loss

The theft has caused a major financial loss to the shop owner. According to the owner, the store contained various daily-use items, many of which were taken away by the thieves. Apart from this, the cash kept in the shop was also stolen.

The shop owner said that such an incident has caused significant difficulties as the store was built through years of hard work. He requested police to identify the thieves as soon as possible and recover the stolen items.

Local residents said that police should pay special attention to the safety of small shopkeepers and traders because theft incidents directly affect their financial condition.

Anger Among Local Residents

After the incident, anger was seen among residents of Refugee Colony. Local people said that police patrolling during night hours is not sufficient in the area, allowing thieves to take advantage of the situation.

Residents claimed that many CCTV cameras installed in the area have remained non-functional for a long time. If the cameras were working, they could have helped police identify those involved in the theft.

People demanded that the administration repair all damaged CCTV cameras immediately and ensure regular police patrolling in sensitive areas.

Police Begin Investigation

After receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot and started an investigation. Officials inspected the shop and questioned nearby residents.

Police officials said that the theft case has been taken seriously. Efforts are being made to identify the thieves by collecting information from surrounding areas.

Police are trying to find out how many people were involved in the crime and the route through which they entered and escaped. For this, officials are attempting to collect footage from nearby CCTV cameras.

Questions Raised Over Security Arrangements

The theft incident in Refugee Colony has once again raised questions over security arrangements in the area. Local residents said that regular police patrolling could have created fear among criminals.

People demanded an increase in police presence during night hours to prevent theft and other criminal activities.

Traders said that shops often contain goods worth lakhs of rupees, but due to lack of proper security arrangements, they remain vulnerable to such incidents.

Demand to Activate CCTV Cameras

Local residents have primarily demanded that all non-functional CCTV cameras should be repaired and activated. They said that CCTV surveillance has become essential for controlling crime in modern times.

Active CCTV cameras can help monitor suspicious activities and provide important evidence during investigations after crimes occur.

Residents also suggested installing additional cameras in important market and residential areas to strengthen security.

Concern Over Increasing Theft Incidents

Several theft incidents have been reported from different parts of Saharsa from time to time. Such incidents have increased concern among common people and traders.

Residents said that rising criminal activities create a feeling of insecurity among citizens. They appealed to the police administration to take effective measures to control crime.

Hope for Quick Action

At present, police are investigating the case. The shop owner and local residents hope that police will soon identify the thieves and recover the stolen goods and cash.

The incident once again highlights the need to strengthen security arrangements in markets and residential areas. Effective police patrolling, CCTV monitoring, and public awareness can play an important role in preventing theft-related incidents.
