Pulse Polio Eradication Campaign Continues; 50 Children Administered Drops on Day Two, Health Department Teams Conduct Door-to-Door Monitoring
Akbarnagar: The five-day 'Pulse Polio Eradication Campaign,' aimed at protecting children from polio—a severe and disability-causing disease—concluded its second day with full intensity in the district. In the Akbarnagar area, active teams from the Health Department conducted an intensive drive today, administering polio drops to 50 children. The primary objective of the campaign is to ensure that no child between the ages of zero and five is left without the vaccine.
Ground Reality of the Campaign
Various teams formed by the Health Department remained active from early morning at public spaces, railway stations, bus stands, and rural areas across the region. The teams not only administered the drops but also educated parents on the importance of immunization. According to officials at the Akbarnagar Primary Health Centre, the second day's focus was on areas with high footfall. Health workers conducted door-to-door visits to ensure that no child was missed out on this vital life-saving dose.
Special Strategy for 'Missed Children'
During the campaign, the Health Department has adopted a special strategy to prepare a list of 'missed children.' Some children could not be vaccinated on the first day due to families being away or children not being at home. To identify such children, teams are now working under a 'micro-planning' model.
The health supervisor of Akbarnagar stated, "Our target is 100% coverage. At the end of the campaign, we will re-verify all those children who could not take the medicine for any reason. A special 'mop-up round' will also be conducted to ensure the target is achieved 100%."
Awareness and Public Cooperation
The role of ASHA workers and Anganwadi workers has been pivotal during this campaign. They are explaining to local residents that polio is an incurable disease but can be easily prevented through vaccination. Many women's groups in the area also supported the health teams by ensuring their children received the drops on time.
Health Department's Appeal
The Health Department has appealed to all parents to ensure their children up to the age of five are given the polio drops, regardless of whether they have received them in the past. The department has clarified that the medicine is completely safe and has no side effects.
There is a positive atmosphere among the locals regarding this campaign in Akbarnagar. Health teams will continue to visit the area for the next three days. If anyone has a child who is still missed, they can contact their local health center or the ASHA worker of their area.
The administration expressed confidence that with the hard work of the teams and public cooperation, Akbarnagar will achieve its target of 100% and succeed in providing a polio-free future for the children.
