Students and parents are continuously inquiring whether schools will remain closed or open on August 8 in prominent districts such as Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Meerut, and Muzaffarnagar. In view of weather forecasts by the Meteorological Department (IMD) and safety and traffic management measures by local district administrations, region-specific guidelines have been issued. Ghaziabad: Extended School Holiday Declared
Prioritizing the massive crowd of Kanwar Yatris, route diversions, and student safety, the Ghaziabad district administration has issued strict orders well in advance.
Latest Status: According to instructions from the District Magistrate in Ghaziabad, all government, aided, and private schools from nursery up to class 12th will remain completely closed from August 4 to August 12, 2026.
Applicability: This rule strictly applies to CBSE, ICSE, UP Board, and all other recognized educational institutions. Therefore, schools in Ghaziabad will remain closed on August 8.
Meerut & Muzaffarnagar: Schools Closed Due to Kanwar Yatra
In view of the massive influx of Kanwariyas (Shiva devotees) in these two sensitive districts of western Uttar Pradesh, the administration has already announced a holiday for educational institutions.
Latest Status: According to orders from the Meerut and Muzaffarnagar district administrations, all schools and colleges here are closed from August 3 to August 10, 2026.
Implication: Since this holiday remains effective until August 10, all schools and educational institutions in Meerut and Muzaffarnagar will also remain completely closed on August 8. Students will return to school only on August 11.
Delhi: Operations to Remain Normal
According to the Meteorological Department, light clouds and sporadic rain are expected in the national capital Delhi, but no official directive has been issued to close schools on a large scale due to the Kanwar Yatra or any other local disruptions.
Latest Status: No mass holiday has been declared for August 8 by the Directorate of Education (DoE), Delhi Government, or MCD. Schools here will function normally according to their scheduled timings. However, if severe waterlogging occurs in any local area, individual schools may take decisions at their own discretion.
Noida & Greater Noida: Normal Operations
The administration is closely monitoring the weather and local conditions in Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida and Greater Noida) district of Uttar Pradesh.
Latest Status: No official school closure order has been issued by the district administration for August 8 in the Noida-Greater Noida region. All schools here will remain open according to their set schedules. However, some private schools may offer the option of online classes to students keeping traffic or route diversions in mind.
Gurugram & Faridabad: No Official Holiday
The weather remains generally normal in these major NCR cities bordering Haryana as well.
Latest Status: No holiday orders regarding school closures on August 8 have been issued by the Gurugram and Faridabad administrations. Schools here will function like normal days.
