Ara: DM Expresses Anger Over Slow Progress of Storm Water Drainage System, Directs Officials to Accelerate Work
Ara, Correspondent: On Tuesday, a high-level review meeting was conducted by District Magistrate (DM) Tanay Sultania to assess the progress of the construction work of the 'Storm Water Drainage System' in the city, which aims to provide a permanent solution to the problem of waterlogging. During the meeting, the DM expressed dissatisfaction with the current status of the construction work and issued strict directives to the concerned executive engineers and contractors to expedite the project.
Current Status of the Project
Waterlogging has been a persistent and serious issue in various wards of Ara city. The storm water drainage system is being laid to eradicate this problem from its roots. The review meeting revealed that in many areas, the excavation and pipe-laying work is running behind the scheduled timeline.
DM Tanay Sultania sought to understand the reasons for the ongoing delays in the work. He clearly stated, "Providing relief to the city residents from waterlogging is the top priority of the district administration; any kind of negligence in this will not be tolerated".
Strict Directives for Construction Work
During the meeting, the DM issued the following instructions to the officials associated with the construction work:
Speed of Work: Contractors have been directed to increase the number of manpower and machines so that the construction work can be completed on a war footing.
Quality: The DM emphasized that there will be no compromise on the quality of materials used in the construction of the drainage system.
Timeline: Considering the approaching monsoon season, instructions were given to make all main drains and connecting points of the drainage system operational as soon as possible.
Resolution of Obstacles
Complaints regarding work being obstructed in several areas due to land acquisition or electricity poles were also brought to light. The DM assured that any administrative hurdles will be resolved immediately. He instructed the concerned departments to work in coordination so that the project can be completed without any interruption.
Public Expectations
The residents of Ara have high expectations from this drainage system. In previous years, even light rain would leave the city's main roads and low-lying areas submerged. The district administration believes that if this project is completed on time, the city will be largely freed from the issue of waterlogging.
This review meeting conducted by DM Tanay Sultania sends a clear message that the administration is now extremely serious about this project. There is also a possibility of surprise inspections by the administration in the coming days to monitor the pace of the work. Now, it remains to be seen how much impact these strict instructions from the administration have on the contractors.
