Workshop on 'Science & Mathematics' Held at Block Resource Center; Teachers Trained in Innovative Teaching

Narayanpur (Bhagalpur): With the aim of improving quality education and developing the logical reasoning skills of students, a one-day workshop was organized at the Block Resource Center (BRC) in Narayanpur. The theme of the workshop was 'Improving Learning Levels of Students in Science and Mathematics.' The program was attended by the headmasters of all middle schools within the block, along with designated teachers of Science and Mathematics.

Focus on Activity-Based Learning

The primary objective of the workshop was to introduce teachers to modern pedagogical methods that eliminate rote learning and foster a genuine understanding of subjects among students. Resource persons demonstrated how complex subjects like Science and Mathematics can be made engaging through 'Activity-Based Learning.' They provided live demonstrations to teachers on how everyday household items can be used to solve mathematical formulas and how scientific principles can be explained through experiments, thereby sparking curiosity in the minds of the students.

Insights from Education Department Officials

Addressing the workshop, the Block Education Officer stated, "To improve the learning levels of students, teachers must first become innovators. If we incorporate practical examples alongside textbook knowledge in the classroom, the results will undoubtedly be better." He instructed all teachers to implement the techniques learned during the workshop in their respective schools.

Brainstorming Among Teachers

One session during the workshop was dedicated to brainstorming among the teachers. Many educators shared that 'Maths Phobia' among children in rural areas is a major reason they hesitate to pursue Science. To address these challenges, teachers were advised to emphasize 'Peer Learning,' where children learn to solve difficult problems with the help of their classmates.

Key Highlights of the Workshop:

Demonstration of TLM: Teachers were trained to create 'Teaching Learning Materials' (TLM) that are low-cost or require zero investment.

Simplified Techniques: Special discussions were held on techniques to teach complex mathematical equations through games.

Effective Classroom Management: Teachers shared their experiences on how to keep students actively engaged during teaching hours.

The Road Ahead

At the conclusion of the workshop, the coordinator of the Block Resource Center announced that this initiative would not be limited to a single day. Schools will be inspected periodically to assess the impact of the methods taught during the workshop on classroom teaching.

This initiative is expected to bring a new wave of energy to the educational environment in the middle schools of Narayanpur block. The teachers have resolved to utilize these new techniques with utmost dedication to shape the future of their students. It is hoped that, in conjunction with 'Mission Daksh' and other academic improvement schemes, this workshop will propel students' educational levels to new heights.
