Uproar Against Police Brutality in Benipur, Bihar: Massive Sit-in Protests Led by MP Vijay Kumar Rai; District President Mithilesh Kumar Chaudhary Slams the Government Over Crisis Looming on Students' Futures

Darbhanga/Benipur: Whispers of resistance against administrative high-handedness have intensified once again over public-interest issues on the political and social landscape of Bihar. The latest incident unfolds in the Benipur sub-divisional area of the Darbhanga district, where a historic and massive sit-in protest was organized against police brutality and oppressive policies. This protest has transformed into a major mass movement opposing administrative excess, dictatorial attitudes, and the tampering with the futures of students and youth.

Thousands of locals, students, youth, and workers of various social organizations participated in this sit-in protest, held under the charismatic leadership of Member of Parliament (MP) Vijay Kumar Rai and the specific guidance of Darbhanga Rural District President Mithilesh Kumar Chaudhary. Throughout the event, Benipur echoed with slogans against administrative repression.

Background of the Sit-In: What Exactly Happened in Benipur?

A recent incident in the Benipur region of Bihar raised serious questions about the administrative system and the working style of the police. Local students and youth were staging a peaceful protest regarding their legitimate rights, student-centric demands, and local issues. The district administration and local police brutally baton-charged these innocent students and youth who were merely exercising their fundamental right to express their views in a democratic country.

Many students were severely injured in this inhumane police brutality and had to be admitted to hospitals for treatment. This repressive police action sparked widespread anger among the residents of the entire area. To demand justice against this public anguish and the atrocities committed against students, this provocative sit-in protest was organized on the soil of Benipur.

MP Vijay Kumar Rai’s Firm Stance: "Administrative Dictatorship Will Not Be Tolerated"

Addressing the massive gathering at the protest site, MP Vijay Kumar Rai launched a scathing attack on the state government and the district administration. In unequivocal terms, he stated that the malicious attempt made in Benipur to suppress the voice of the public using lathis and bullets in a democracy will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

In his address, MP Vijay Kumar Rai said, "It is deeply shameful that the police rained lathis on our children and students—who were peacefully protesting for their basic and legitimate demands—as if they were criminals. The rule of law in Bihar appears to be in peril today. The administration has forgotten that it is a servant of the people, not a ruler. We demand the identification of the guilty officers and personnel involved in the police brutality and strict legal action against them. Our struggle will continue until justice is delivered to the victims."

He further warned that if a government elected by the votes of the people suppresses the youth and students, it will be met with a fitting response on the streets. The MP's strong posture infused a fresh wave of enthusiasm among the protesters, and the entire pandal reverberated with anti-government slogans.

District President Mithilesh Kumar Chaudhary’s Ultimatum: "Tampering with Students' Futures Will Not Be Tolerated"

During the sit-in, Darbhanga Rural District President Mithilesh Kumar Chaudhary shed light in his address primarily on the severe crisis looming over the future of the youth and students. He stated that today, the youth and students of Bihar are already passing through deep mental stress due to unemployment, the dilapidated state of the education system, and administrative corruption. In such a scenario, when they raise their voices to secure their futures, they are met with bullets and batons.

Mithilesh Kumar Chaudhary said, "The police rampage witnessed in Benipur today has made the future of students even more bleak. Students are the architects of our country and society. If their futures are put in jeopardy and conspiracies are hatched to ruin their careers by slapping fake cases on them, our organization will not sit quietly. We warn the administration to immediately withdraw all false cases registered against the students, otherwise, this agitation will take an aggressive turn from the entire Darbhanga district to the streets of Patna."

He further stated that the strategy adopted by those sitting in power to intimidate the youth instead of addressing education and employment will have to be paid for by them in the coming days.

Massive Support from Local Citizens and Youth

People from all walks of life participated enthusiastically in this sit-in protest organized in Benipur. The presence of elders, women, and youth proved that the general public of Benipur is now united against injustice. During the protest, the speakers demanded in unison that:

Action Against Guilty Police Personnel: Police officers involved in the brutal lathi-charge on students should be suspended immediately.

Compensation for Injured Students: The government should bear the entire medical expenses of the students seriously injured in the police assault and provide them with appropriate compensation.

Withdrawal of False Cases: All false and fabricated cases registered against students during the protest should be revoked immediately.

Protection of Democratic Rights: A guarantee should be provided for the protection of the constitutional rights of those staging peaceful protests in the future.

Ultimatum to the Administration and Future Strategy

At the conclusion of the sit-in protest, a delegation led by MP Vijay Kumar Rai and District President Mithilesh Kumar Chaudhary submitted a memorandum to local administrative officials. Through this memorandum, the administration was warned that if action is not taken against the guilty police personnel and the students' cases are not withdrawn within a stipulated timeframe, an aggressive phased agitation will be launched, the full responsibility of which will lie with the district administration and the state government.

This sit-in protest stood witness to the fact that whenever the rights of the public are violated and police brutality wreaks havoc, the people will take to the streets to raise their voices against injustice. This gathering in Benipur has left a major message on the current political landscape.
