Tragic "Celebratory Firing" at Wedding Leaves Three Injured; Rifle Seized from Hostel, Guard Arrested
Muzaffarpur: A joyous wedding celebration turned into a scene of chaos and mourning on Monday night in Parsauni Jahangir village, under the Sahebganj police station area. During the arrival of the wedding procession (darwaza lagna), indiscriminate celebratory firing left three people seriously injured. Taking swift action, the police have arrested Ramkishore Mishra, a guard at a girls' hostel in Mithanpura, and recovered the licensed rifle used in the incident.
How the Incident Unfolded
According to reports, the incident took place at the wedding of the daughter of Mukesh Pathak, a resident of Parsauni Jahangir. The atmosphere was celebratory, with guests dancing to music. During this time, a person accompanying the wedding procession began firing into the air with a licensed rifle. The sudden gunfire triggered panic, and three people present at the venue collapsed in a pool of blood. Among the injured is tent worker Anil Paswan (alias Bichhu), who suffered a bullet wound to his knee. He has been admitted to SKMCH in critical condition, while the other two injured victims are undergoing treatment at private hospitals.
Recovery from Narayani Hostel
Following the incident, the accused guard, Ramkishore Mishra, fled the scene. Recognizing the severity of the matter, the police launched an investigation based on technical surveillance and CCTV footage. Rural SP Rajesh Singh Prabhakar personally inspected the scene. The police discovered that the accused guard was stationed at the "Narayani Girls' Hostel" in Mithanpura. During a raid, the police recovered the rifle used in the crime along with three live cartridges from the premises.
Use of a Retired Professor’s Rifle
A shocking fact has emerged during the investigation: the licensed rifle used for the firing is registered under the name of the hostel owner, a retired professor named Ramendra Singh. It is alleged that the guard, Ramkishore, had brought the weapon to the wedding ceremony with the support and cooperation of the professor. The police have initiated an investigation into the professor's involvement and are preparing to take action against him. The process to cancel the weapon's license has also been initiated.
Questions Raised on Public Safety
This incident has once again raised serious concerns regarding the display of weapons at public gatherings and the dangerous trend of "celebratory firing." Local residents state that despite repeated warnings from the administration, the exhibition of weapons at weddings continues unabated. While an FIR was initially filed against unknown persons, the arrest of the guard has begun to unravel the details of the entire case.
Police Stance
Led by Saraiya SDPO Abhijit Kaur, the police team has seized the wedding videography to identify other individuals involved in the firing. The arrested guard, Ramkishore Mishra, was presented in court and subsequently sent to jail. The police have asserted that no culprit will be spared, regardless of how influential they may be.
