Strong Demand Raised for Kosi-Seemanchal Road Development and Expressway

Highlighting his proactiveness regarding regional development and public grievances once again, the popular Member of Parliament from Purnia, Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, held a high-level meeting with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi. The primary agenda of this meeting was to accelerate long-pending major road projects in the Kosi and Seemanchal regions, ensure the timely completion of delayed National Highway (NH) construction works, and secure the construction of Railway Overbridges (ROBs) to streamline traffic.

MP Pappu Yadav prominently highlighted the importance of road infrastructure by citing the geographical and economic conditions of the Kosi-Seemanchal region before the Union Minister. He made it clear that the holistic development of this area is impossible without establishing a robust and modern road network.

Key Highlights of the Meeting and Demands Raised

During the discussion and the submission of the memorandum to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, MP Pappu Yadav placed special emphasis on the following major projects:

Incomplete Construction of NH-107 and NH-231: The construction work on both these national highways, considered the lifelines of the region, has been stalled or progressing at an extremely slow pace for a long time. The MP demanded their earliest completion, citing the massive hardships faced by the general public and freight transport.

Rajmahal-Bahadurganj 6-Lane Expressway: A strong demand was made to bring the 6-lane expressway from Rajmahal to Bahadurganj onto the ground, which holds the potential to completely transform connectivity between Kosi-Seemanchal and the northeastern states.

Demand for ROBs at Strategic Locations: Proposals were put forward to construct railway overbridges at key routes to eliminate massive traffic jams and the risk of accidents caused by railway crossings in various places.

High-Quality Bridges and Roads in Flood-Prone Areas: The necessity of constructing all-weather roads and high-technical standard bridges was stressed as a permanent solution to roads getting damaged due to recurring annual floods.

Kosi-Seemanchal: Neglect of Infrastructure and Urgent Need for Development

The Kosi and Seemanchal regions of Bihar, besides being ecologically sensitive, rank among the economically backward areas of the country. For decades, the people of this region have struggled for better connectivity and transportation facilities.

Lack of Transport and Economic Backwardness: Due to the scarcity of good roads, local farmers, traders, and citizens face immense difficulties in transporting their produce and products to markets. In the absence of better roads, major industries also hesitate to invest in the region.

The Challenge of Floods: Annual floods in Kosi and Seemanchal devastate infrastructure. MP Pappu Yadav drew the Union Minister's attention to the crucial fact that normal roads will not suffice for this region; rather, there is a need for roads and bridges capable of withstanding the pressure of floods.

Rajmahal-Bahadurganj 6-Lane Expressway: A Game-Changer Project

The most significant discussion during the meeting centered around the Rajmahal-Bahadurganj 6-Lane Expressway. MP Pappu Yadav underlined the strategic importance of this project:

"This expressway is not merely a road made of concrete and asphalt, but a pathway to the economic transformation of Kosi-Seemanchal. It will not only ease transportation but also create new avenues for trade and employment."

Improvement in Regional Connectivity: The realization of this expressway will shorten distances between the bordering districts of Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Bihar, making travel remarkably fast.

Trade Dynamism: This expressway will prove to be a milestone in strengthening the trade corridor with North-East India. The MP urged that the administrative and financial approval processes for this ambitious project be expedited so that construction can commence soon.

Current Status of NH-107 and NH-231 and Public Expectations

There is widespread public disappointment in the region regarding NH-107 and NH-231. With construction work remaining incomplete for a prolonged period, flying dust, massive potholes, and waterlogging during the monsoon have become routine on these routes.

Public Suffering: Traveling on these routes connecting neighboring districts like Purnia, Katihar, Madhepura, and Saharsa is hazardous. Ambulances and emergency services also face severe obstructions on these paths.

MP's Intervention: Apprising the Union Minister of the ground reality, MP Pappu Yadav urged that strict directives be issued to the concerned construction agencies and officials so that bottlenecks can be cleared immediately and work completed within the stipulated timeline.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari's Stance and Positive Assurance

During the meeting with MP Pappu Yadav, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari listened to the entire matter with utmost seriousness.

Positive Response: According to sources, the Union Minister acknowledged the geographical and developmental requirements of the Kosi-Seemanchal region and assured that obstacles holding up pending projects would be resolved.

Directives for Review: The Minister instructed the concerned officials to pull out the files regarding these national highways and expressway proposals, conduct an immediate review, and take necessary action.

This Delhi visit by Pappu Yadav is considered a crucial step forward on the developmental front of Kosi-Seemanchal. The manner in which he rose above partisan politics to strongly articulate regional public-interest issues at the central level has sparked a new ray of hope among the local populace. If the Rajmahal-Bahadurganj 6-Lane Expressway, the incomplete works of NH-107/231, and the construction of ROBs are completed in a time-bound manner, it will write a new golden chapter of infrastructure development in the history of Kosi-Seemanchal. It remains to be seen how swiftly the administrative machinery translates these declarations and demands into ground reality following this high-level meeting.
