Stalwart of Social Justice Remembered at Memorial Meeting in Bihpur Congress Office
Bihpur (Bhagalpur/Naugachia): The death anniversary of the former Deputy Prime Minister of India, a great freedom fighter, and the most powerful voice of social justice, 'Babu Jagjivan Ram', was observed with immense reverence and respect in Bihpur on Monday. A special memorial meeting organized at the local Congress office saw speakers commemorate the life, struggle, and incomparable contributions of 'Babuji', as he was fondly known, to the nation-building process.
Grand Organization of the Event
The program was presided over by the Block Congress Committee President, Mohammad Ibrar Alam. The tribute meeting commenced with the garlanding of Babu Jagjivan Ram’s portrait and the offering of floral tributes. Senior Congress leaders, party workers, and local intellectuals participated in the event. During the meeting, speakers emphasized how the principles upheld by Babuji are even more relevant in today’s era.
Messiah of Social Justice and Democratic Values
Addressing the gathering, Mohammad Ibrar Alam stated, "Babu Jagjivan Ram is the name of that towering figure in Indian politics who, while battling scarcity, became the voice of the person standing at the very last rung of society and journeyed all the way to the corridors of power. He not only fought for the country's independence but also struggled throughout his life to build an egalitarian society after independence."
Speakers shed light on his major works and achievements:
Architect of the Green Revolution: As Agriculture Minister, Babuji laid the foundation for making the country self-reliant in food grain production. It was during his tenure that the Green Revolution was initiated in India, which curbed the problem of starvation.
Proponent of Social Equality: He worked continuously to eradicate caste-based discrimination and bring marginalized and oppressed sections of society into the mainstream. He always championed the protection of democratic values and constitutional norms.
Indomitable Political Acumen: His role as the Defence Minister during the 1971 war was historic. Under his leadership, India demonstrated military prowess and created history, resulting in the birth of Bangladesh.
A Source of Inspiration for Workers
At this memorial meeting, district and block-level Congress leaders remarked that in an era where challenges to democratic institutions and social harmony are growing, the thoughts of Babu Jagjivan Ram serve as a guiding light. Speakers emphasized that Babuji's life is proof that revolutionary changes can be brought about in society by following the path of strong willpower and truth.
Leaders noted that because of Babuji’s respect for 'labor', his birth anniversary is also celebrated as 'Samata Diwas' (Equality Day). They appealed to the party workers to follow in his footsteps, serve the weaker sections of society, and strengthen the unity and integrity of the country.
Distinguished Attendees
Several office-bearers of the Block Congress, members of the Youth Congress, and social workers were present on the occasion. Everyone collectively pledged to fulfill the unfulfilled dreams of Babuji. Speakers at the event called upon the attendees to carry the message of 'non-violence', 'equality', and 'brotherhood' preached by Babuji to every household.
The memorial meeting concluded with slogans of "Babu Jagjivan Ram Amar Rahe" (Long live Babu Jagjivan Ram). This event held at the Bihpur Congress office was not merely a formality but a commitment to the great ideals of Babuji, who played a significant role in modernizing and democratizing India. The life of Babu Jagjivan Ram will always remain a source of inspiration for future generations, teaching us never to compromise on principles, even in the most difficult of circumstances.
