Security and Surveillance to be Beefed Up for Shravani Mela; On DM's Strict Directives, Orders Issued to Immediately Repair All Defunct CCTV Cameras in the City, Stir in Police Department

Bhagalpur, Office Correspondent: The district administration has completely geared up to maintain law and order, traffic control, and keep a close vigil on every nook and corner of Silk City Bhagalpur during the world-famous and holy Shravani Mela. According the highest priority to the safety of lakhs of Lord Shiva devotees and Kanwariyas arriving from across the country and abroad during the fair, the District Magistrate (DM) of Bhagalpur has issued a highly crucial and strict directive. Citing letters from various Station House Officers (SHOs) and concerned departments, the DM has ordered the immediate restoration and operationalization of all defunct CCTV cameras lying out of order in different parts of the city. This administrative move will not only rein in criminals but also ensure live monitoring of every city activity directly from the police control room.

Shravani Mela Security: Why Is the Utility of Cameras Crucial?

During the holy month of Sawan, a massive sea of devotees converges on the Bhagalpur and Sultanganj regions:

Crowd Control and Monitoring Suspects: Amidst a massive crowd of lakhs, keeping an eye on anti-social elements, miscreants, and suspicious activities remains a major challenge for the police administration. In such a scenario, CCTV cameras installed at major city intersections, traffic signals, and sensitive locations act as the third eye of security.

Citing Letters from SHOs: Recently, several SHOs of the city had apprised the district administration through reports and letters that many CCTV cameras installed in their respective jurisdictions had been lying defunct for a long time due to technical snags or a lack of maintenance. Taking these letters seriously, the DM issued orders for immediate action.

DM's Review Meeting and Orders for Prompt Repair

During a high-level security review meeting chaired by the District Magistrate, special emphasis was laid on strengthening the technical infrastructure:

Repair Work on a War Footing: The DM has issued strict instructions to the Municipal Corporation and concerned technical agencies to complete the geo-mapping and maintenance work of all faulty cameras even before the Shravani Mela commences. Cameras with faulty lenses or server issues must be immediately replaced with new equipment.

Direct Monitoring from the Control Room: The city's main Command and Control Center is being connected with live feeds from these cameras so that the police force can reach the spot immediately in case of any untoward situation or emergency.

Wave of Happiness Among Traders and Local Citizens

City residents, shopkeepers, and prominent citizens have highly appreciated this strict and timely step taken by the administration:

Curbing Crimes: Locals believe that making the cameras operational will largely curb incidents like chain snatching, pickpocketing, harassment, and vehicle theft.

Smooth Traffic Management: The footage from these cameras will also be utilized by the traffic police to tackle the severe traffic jams that occur during the Shravani Mela, thereby helping to streamline vehicle route diversions and overall traffic movement.

The Bhagalpur DM's directive to immediately repair and turn on the defunct CCTV cameras in view of the Shravani Mela is an excellent example of administrative sensitivity and foresight. This coordination of technology and the police force will not only make the security arrangements of the fairgrounds impenetrable but also ensure that the journey of Shiva devotees arriving from all over the country is completely safe and hassle-free.
