Road Accident Shatters a Newlywed Home; Bride Dies Tragically Just 17 Days After Wedding
BHAGALPUR/SULTANGANJ: A horrific road accident near Shivnandanpur on the Sultanganj-Deoghar main road in Bhagalpur district has not only snatched away the happiness of a family but has shaken the entire region. A 20-year-old newlywed bride died on the spot after being hit by an uncontrolled high-speed Hyva (truck), while her husband sustained serious injuries. The tragedy occurred while the couple was returning home, dreaming of a new beginning for their life together.
The Light Extinguished Before the Mehendi Could Fade
The deceased has been identified as Roshni Parveen (20), wife of Md. Zulfiqar, a resident of Mirzapur Bardah in Munger district. In a cruel twist of fate, it had been only 17 days since Roshni and Zulfiqar were married. They had tied the knot on July 2, vowing to spend their lives together. The scent of the mehendi on their hands had not yet fully faded when this road accident closed the pages of their life story forever.
According to family members, Roshni had visited Chutia Belari village in the Shambhuganj police station area of Banka district with her husband on Saturday, at the invitation of her aunt. They were returning home to Mirzapur Bardah on a motorcycle on Sunday morning.
How the Accident Happened
Around 9:00 AM on Sunday, as the couple's motorcycle reached near Shivnandanpur village under the Sultanganj police station area, a high-speed Hyva coming from behind hit them. Eyewitnesses reported that the Hyva driver was driving at an extremely high speed and in a reckless manner. The impact was so forceful that the couple fell onto the road.
The accident was devastating; Roshni Parveen, who was riding pillion, lost her balance, fell onto the road, and the rear wheel of the Hyva ran over her. She died on the spot, while her husband, Zulfiqar, was left severely injured. After committing the act, the driver abandoned the vehicle at the scene and fled.
Outrage on the Road: Two-Hour Traffic Blockade
Upon receiving news of the incident, a large number of local villagers and family members gathered at the spot. Angered by the tragedy, they blocked the Sultanganj-Deoghar main road using bamboo sticks and debris. The protesters demanded the immediate arrest of the Hyva driver, appropriate compensation for the victim's family, and the presence of senior officials at the scene.
Due to the blockade, long queues of vehicles formed on the Sultanganj-Deoghar road, and traffic was completely paralyzed. Upon receiving information, Sultanganj Station House Officer (SHO) Dhananjay Kumar and BDO Sanjeev Kumar arrived at the scene with their team. After much effort, the officials pacified the grieving and angry crowd and assured them of fair action in the matter. The blockade was lifted after about two hours of intense struggle.
Police Action and Investigation
SHO Dhananjay Kumar stated that the body has been taken into custody and sent to the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JLNMCH) in Bhagalpur for a post-mortem. The police have registered an FIR against the accused driver and are conducting raids to arrest him. Police also mentioned that they are examining CCTV footage from the vicinity to ensure the suspect's identification.
