Police Arrest Lover Who Abducted Minor; Girl Recovered from Thakurwari Chowk
Kahalgaon/Bhagalpur: Another example of police efficiency and prompt action has emerged in Kahalgaon. The police have successfully recovered a minor girl who had run away with her lover the previous day, within just 24 hours of the incident, from near Thakurwari Chowk. Along with the recovery of the girl, the police have also taken the youth into custody for allegedly luring and abducting the minor. This incident has become the talk of the town.
According to the information received, the family members of the minor girl had lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the Kahalgaon police station on Wednesday, alleging that a local youth had lured their daughter into a romantic trap and abducted her. The family accused the youth of deceiving the minor with promises of marriage. Upon receiving the complaint, the Kahalgaon police took immediate cognizance of the matter, and as per the instructions of the Superintendent of Police, a special team was constituted to handle the case with urgency.
The police began using scientific research methods and mobile location tracking to trace the couple. The team conducted raids at various suspected hideouts across the city. On Thursday morning, the police received intelligence that the youth was present near Thakurwari Chowk with the girl. Acting swiftly, the police team surrounded the location and took the couple into custody.
Legal Process and Medical Examination
After the recovery, the police’s top priority was ensuring the minor’s safety and completing the necessary legal formalities. The police took the minor to the Subdivisional Hospital under tight security for a medical examination. Following the medical check-up, she was produced before the Kahalgaon Subdivisional Court (SDO Court) to have her statement recorded as per the law.
The minor recorded her statement before the judge. According to police sources, the minor has provided details about the sequence of events during questioning. Now, as per the court's directives, the procedure to either hand her over to her family or send her to a protective home will be completed.
Legal Action Against the Accused
The youth accused of abducting the minor has been named in the FIR. A case has been registered against him under serious sections, including abduction and the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act. The police have clarified that since the girl is a minor, her consent holds no legal significance; therefore, the accused will face stringent legal consequences.
The Station House Officer (SHO) told the media, "Our team made continuous efforts as soon as we received the information. Recovering the minor was our highest priority. The accused is being interrogated regarding their whereabouts and whether any other person was involved in this conspiracy."

The rising number of cases of minors running away from home in both urban and rural areas of Kahalgaon has caused significant concern among local parents. Following this incident, intellectuals in society have noted that due to the increasing use of social media and mobile phones, adolescents are easily led astray. The police have also advised parents to monitor their children's activities and be vigilant about their mobile usage. They emphasized that had the family informed the police in a timely manner, the case might have been resolved even faster.
