No Space Left for New Copies, Waste Paper Not Sold for Three Years
Bhagalpur: Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University (TMBU) is currently grappling with a bizarre problem. The confidential branch located on the university campus and the store rooms of various examination centers are completely filled with old answer scripts. The situation is such that due to the non-sale or disposal of old answer scripts for the last three years, a mountain of paper has built up in the campus rooms. Due to the lack of space, the university administration is now struggling immensely even to store new answer scripts.
Three Years of 'Change' Stuck
According to the rules, after the completion of examinations and the declaration of results, old answer scripts are declared as 'waste paper' after a certain period and are auctioned through a tender process. However, due to administrative apathy and delays in the tender process, this sale has been stalled for the last three years. As a result, lakhs of copies have accumulated in the university warehouses.
According to sources, the rooms that should have been used for academic work or the storage of confidential files are now completely filled with answer scripts. In many rooms, the bundles of copies have reached the ceiling, increasing pressure on the walls and roofs of the rooms.
The Challenge of Storing New Copies
Examinations for the new session are being conducted continuously at the university, for which the purchase and storage of new answer scripts are essential. However, due to the lack of space, a major crisis has arisen for the university administration. Staff in the confidential department say that there is no empty space left to keep new copies when they arrive. If the old copies are not disposed of soon, it could hinder the conduct of upcoming examinations.
Threat Looming Over Security
It is not just a lack of space; security is also a major issue. The accumulation of answer scripts has increased the risk of fire hazards on the university campus. Due to the massive quantity of dry paper, a little negligence could lead to major damage. Furthermore, old copies contain student data, and leaving them in the open for a long time is considered a violation of privacy regulations.
On this matter, university officials state that the process for the sale of old answer scripts is being initiated. The file for issuing the tender has been moved forward, and soon, tenders will be invited to auction off the old copies. However, the question remains: why has there been such a long delay over the last three years, and who is accountable for it?
Student organizations have also expressed concern over this situation. They state that this negligence by the university administration is not only wasting campus space but also wasting university resources.
It is now a challenge for the university to clear this heap of paper as soon as possible and organize the campus so that there is no obstruction in new academic activities.
