Multi-Million Embezzlement at Petrol Pump in Laheriasarai: Manager Kanchan Kumar Chaudhary Accused of Fraud Over ₹90 Lakhs; FIR Registered
Laheriasarai: A case of embezzlement exceeding ₹90 lakhs has come to light at a prominent petrol pump located in Benta, under the jurisdiction of the Laheriasarai police station in Darbhanga district. This incident has caused a stir in the local business community. Based on the complaint filed by the proprietor of the petrol pump, the police have registered an FIR against the manager under serious charges and have initiated an investigation.
What is the Case?
According to the information received, the proprietor of the petrol pump, Pankaj Kumar Parashar, has filed a written complaint at the Laheriasarai police station. In the complaint, he has accused his own manager, Kanchan Kumar Chaudhary, of breach of trust and financial fraud.
According to the proprietor, discrepancies in the petrol pump's accounts had been surfacing over the past few months. When he conducted a thorough audit of the accounts, he was shocked to discover that an amount exceeding ₹90 lakhs was missing. This amount represented the daily sales of petrol and diesel, which was allegedly siphoned off instead of being deposited in the bank.
Preliminary Investigation: How was it Revealed?
The preliminary investigation revealed that the manager, Kanchan Kumar Chaudhary, had been orchestrating this scheme for a long time. The modus operandi was as follows:
Tampering with Daily Sales: Instead of depositing the daily sales revenue into the bank, the manager was allegedly diverting it into his personal accounts or other accounts.
Forgery of Documents: The manager was reportedly misleading the proprietor by creating fake bank receipts and falsified entries.
Accounting Discrepancies: When the proprietor investigated the difference between the stock provided by the oil company and the actual cash deposits, a massive shortfall of over ₹90 lakhs was found.
Proprietor's Complaint and Police Action
In his complaint, Pankaj Kumar Parashar has clearly stated that the manager has not only embezzled money but has also harmed his reputation and that of his establishment. He has urged the police to investigate the manager’s assets and ensure the recovery of the embezzled amount.
The Station House Officer (SHO) of Laheriasarai said:
"A case has been registered based on the proprietor's application. The embezzlement is becoming clear in the preliminary investigation. Currently, the accused manager is absconding. A police team is conducting raids at his potential hideouts, and a thorough investigation of bank accounts is also underway."
A Subject of Discussion in the Area
This major theft at a petrol pump located in a busy area like Benta has left the public stunned. Traders in the city are concerned about how a trusted individual could commit such fraud for such a long time without being caught.
Legal Proceedings and the Path Ahead
The police are taking action in this matter under the relevant sections of the IPC. Experts believe that if the embezzlement had not been detected in time, the figure could have been even higher. The police are now trying to determine whether other employees or external individuals were also involved in this embezzlement in addition to the manager.
This case is a harsh example of how 'trust' is paramount in business, but how one individual can misuse that very trust to put an entire establishment in financial crisis. The petrol pump management has now made new 'security audits' and 'digital transaction' policies mandatory for all employees to prevent such incidents in the future.
