Meeting Held Regarding Social Audit at Shermari Inter Level High School; Investigation Process to Begin from July 6th

Pirpainti (Bhagalpur): With the aim of ensuring transparency and quality in the education system, an important meeting regarding the government-initiated 'Social Audit' was held at Shermari Inter Level High School in the Pirpainti block. The meeting was attended by headmasters of various schools, teacher representatives, and local intellectuals. The highlight of the session was the address by DRDA Social Auditor Satima Begum, who shed detailed light on the nuances and objectives of the social audit.

What is Social Audit and Why is it Important?

Addressing the meeting, Social Auditor Satima Begum announced that the social audit process will officially commence in all government schools across Bihar starting from July 6th. She stated that this is a mandatory step toward reforming the education system. The primary objective of the social audit is to determine whether the benefits of government schemes are reaching the students at the grassroots level. It will involve a thorough review of the Mid-Day Meal program, school infrastructure, academic quality, and financial management.

Transparent Investigation at the School Level

Satima Begum clarified that a social audit is not merely an inspection of files, but a medium to strengthen the connection between the school and the community. During the investigation, special attention will be paid to the following points:

Mid-Day Meal: The quality of the food, hygiene, and the availability of nutrients provided to the students.

Enrollment and Attendance: The actual enrollment of students in the school and their daily attendance status.

Basic Amenities: Availability and maintenance of drinking water, toilets, playgrounds, and classrooms.

Financial Transparency: Whether the funds received by the School Management Committee (SMC) have been spent according to the rules.

Instructions to Headmasters

All headmasters present at the meeting were instructed to keep all necessary documents for the social audit—such as cash books, stock registers, attendance registers, and other government records—updated. Satima Begum emphasized that any negligence in cooperating with the audit team will not be tolerated. She said, "Our goal is not to find fault in anyone, but to rectify the shortcomings in the system so that children can receive a better educational environment."

Community Participation is Essential

The auditor appealed to villagers and parents to play an active role during the social audit. She stated that the feedback from parents is the most crucial aspect. If any irregularities are found in the implementation of schemes in any school, the public can present their concerns before the audit team without any hesitation.

Seriousness Displayed at the Meeting

Several local education department officials and teachers were present at the meeting held at Shermari Inter Level High School. Everyone unanimously assured their full cooperation in the social audit process. At the conclusion of the meeting, the message was conveyed that this audit would prove to be a revolutionary step toward implementing the Right to Education effectively on the ground.

The framework for this audit has also been prepared for other schools in the Pirpainti block. This process, beginning on July 6th, will continue over the next few days, raising expectations for qualitative improvements in the functioning of the schools.
