Massive Awareness Against AIDS in Saharsa through 'Red Run': Students of Rajendra Mishra College Send a Message of a Healthy Societ
Saharsa: Taking an exemplary initiative toward health and social responsibility, the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of the prestigious Rajendra Mishra College in Saharsa organized a grand 'Red Run'. This event was conducted under the aegis of the 'Red Ribbon Club' in collaboration with the Bihar State AIDS Control Society. The main objective of the run was to spread awareness about serious diseases like AIDS among the youth, dispel myths, and inspire society toward a healthy and secure future.
'Red Run': A Race for Awareness
Students participated with great enthusiasm in the 'Red Run', which commenced from the college campus in the morning. While flagging off the event, the college Principal and NSS program officers emphasized that AIDS remains a global challenge, and the most effective weapon to fight it is 'awareness'.
Participants carried placards and banners with slogans related to AIDS, such as—"Do not shun AIDS patients, embrace them", "Prevention is better than cure", and "Be aware, stay safe". The run passed through the city's main thoroughfares, attracting the attention of local citizens.
Objective: Eradicating Myths
There was a deep social purpose behind this event organized in collaboration with the Bihar State AIDS Control Society. Organizers noted that even today, a large section of society harbors misconceptions about AIDS. People hesitate to sit with or touch an infected person. Through this run, the students conveyed the message that:
AIDS does not spread through touching or sitting together.
Adopting a sympathetic and humane approach toward people living with HIV/AIDS is mandatory.
The chain of infection can only be broken through regular testing and accurate information.
Student Power: Forerunners of Change
Following the run, a seminar was organized on the college campus. During the event, NSS volunteers used street plays and speeches to highlight the causes of AIDS transmission (such as unsafe sexual practices, use of infected needles, and lack of caution in blood transfusion).
Through their active participation, the students of Rajendra Mishra College proved that the youth of the Kosi region are no longer limited to textbook knowledge; they are fully prepared to fight against social evils and diseases.
Experts' Opinion: "Information is Protection"
Experts present at the event stated that the energy of the youth is the greatest strength of this campaign. Students are being trained through the Red Ribbon Club at the college level so that they can go to their respective villages and neighborhoods to make people aware of AIDS. Experts emphasized that there is no cure for AIDS, but 'precaution' is the only protection.
Awards and Honors
Students who performed exceptionally well in the run were awarded by the college. During the prize distribution ceremony, college teachers stated that this run was not just a sport, but a display of responsibility. They administered an oath to all participants to act as 'AIDS Warriors'.
The 'Red Run' organized at Rajendra Mishra College was not merely a race; it was a torchbearer of social consciousness. In a district like Saharsa, where there is a continuous need to improve health facilities and levels of awareness, such an initiative by the youth is commendable.
This event made it clear that if the youth resolve to do so, any superstition and disease can be eradicated from society. This grand race against AIDS not only sent a message of health to the students but also reminded the citizens of Saharsa that we have a collective responsibility toward the safety and health of society.
