Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm Alert, Major Relief from Scorching Heat

The South-West Monsoon has become fully active across Bihar, with its reach now extending to almost every part of the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for heavy to very heavy rainfall and gusty winds in several districts, bringing much-needed relief to people who have been enduring prolonged spells of severe heat and humidity.

Heavy Rainfall Alert Across the State

According to the Meteorological Department, the weather across Bihar is expected to take a significant turn on July 1. An 'Orange' and 'Yellow' alert for heavy rainfall has been issued, particularly for the northern and eastern regions of Bihar.

Warning for Extremely Heavy Rain: Alerts for extremely heavy rainfall have been issued for the districts of East Champaran, West Champaran, Gopalganj, and Katihar.

Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms: Heavy rainfall, accompanied by lightning and thunder, is expected in Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Saran, Siwan, Vaishali, Purnia, Bhagalpur, Araria, Khagaria, Munger, Supaul, Saharsa, Madhepura, Banka, and Jamui.

High-Velocity Winds: Wind speeds in these areas are forecast to reach 40 to 50 km/h.

Drop in Temperature and Relief from Humidity

The most significant impact of the monsoon's arrival and active status is being felt on the temperature. Over the last 24 hours, a dip in temperatures has been recorded in 16 districts, including Patna. Meteorologists predict that the maximum temperature across most parts of the state will decrease by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next 2–3 days, providing substantial relief from the oppressive heat.

IMD Advisory: Caution is Essential

In view of the inclement weather, the Meteorological Department has issued important guidelines for citizens:

Seek Safe Shelter: Do not remain in open fields during thunderstorms or lightning. Immediately seek shelter in a sturdy building.

Stay Away from Hazards: Do not stand under tall trees, electric poles, or weak structures (such as tin sheds or thatched huts).

Travel Precautions: Check road and traffic conditions before traveling and avoid unnecessary outings during peak weather warnings.

Electronic Safety: During strong winds and lightning, unplug electronic appliances to prevent damage.

Outlook for the Coming Days

According to the IMD report, monsoon activity in Bihar is expected to remain consistent for the next few days. Heavy rainfall activities are predicted to continue across various parts of the state between July 2 and July 4. While the intensity of the rain may fluctuate after July 5, the state is expected to remain largely cloudy with intermittent showers, ensuring that the respite from the heat continues throughout the week.

For Bihar, this monsoon not only brings relief from the heat but is also crucial for agricultural activities and managing the water levels of rivers like the Kosi. The administration is closely monitoring the warnings issued by the Meteorological Department to ensure preparedness for any emergency situation.
