Grand Inauguration of the Historic Baba Garibnath Dham Shrawani Mela in Muzaffarpur: Special Worship Conducted in the Presence of Ministers and Devotees
The annual Shrawani Mela was formally and grandly inaugurated at Baba Garibnath Dham in Muzaffarpur, one of North Bihar's most renowned and revered centers of faith. A large number of state government dignitaries, public representatives, and thousands of devotees participated in this opening ceremony. The event commenced with Vedic chanting and special worship, featuring key personalities such as Revenue and Land Reforms Minister Dr. Dilip Kumar Jaiswal, Tourism Minister Kedarnath Prasad Gupta, and Backward and Extremely Backward Classes Welfare Minister Ram (Rama) Nishad.
Grand Inauguration Ceremony at DN High School Premises
The main inauguration ceremony of the Shrawani Mela was held on the grounds of the local DN High School in Muzaffarpur. The event was formally inaugurated by lighting a lamp led by Bihar Government's Revenue and Land Reforms Minister cum Muzaffarpur District In-charge Minister Dr. Dilip Kumar Jaiswal.
On this occasion, District Magistrate (DM) Kumar Gaurav welcomed all incoming guests on behalf of the district administration by presenting them with potted plants and a portrait of Baba Garibnath.
Meanwhile, on behalf of the Garibnath Temple family, renowned priest Pandit Vinay Pathak honored all the ministers and distinguished guests by garlanding them and presenting them with Shiva stoles amidst Vedic chants.
During the inaugural session, the temple's traditional souvenir 'Shivam Sundaram' and the district administration's official 'Shrawani Mobile App' were also launched, enabling kanwariyas and devotees visiting the fair to easily access information.
Addresses by Key Dignitaries and Main Highlights
Addressing the ceremony, prominent state leaders and ministers expressed their views regarding this grand event and assured the provision of top-tier facilities to the devotees:
Dr. Dilip Kumar Jaiswal (Revenue and Land Reforms Minister): In-charge Minister Dr. Jaiswal stated in his address that the worship of Lord Shiva is not merely a traditional religious ritual, but a profound inspiration for inner self-purification and positive living. Conveying a message of universal harmony and mutual brotherhood in society, he prayed for the peace and prosperity of all state residents. He appealed to society to rise above all forms of discrimination and animosity.
Kedarnath Prasad Gupta (Tourism Minister): Tourism Minister Kedarnath Prasad Gupta made a major announcement, stating that developing Baba Garibnath Dham was among his top priorities after assuming office. He informed that a grand 'Corridor' will be constructed at Baba Garibnath Dham at a cost of 6.5 crore rupees, for which administrative approval has already been granted. This will provide world-class amenities to future devotees visiting the shrine.
Ram (Rama) Nishad (Minister): Backward and Extremely Backward Classes Welfare Minister Ram Nishad remarked that the entire city of Muzaffarpur is immersed in devotion to Lord Shiva during the holy month of Sawan. The government and administration are fully committed to serving Shiva devotees arriving from far and wide.
Worship and Religious Rituals
Prior to and during the inauguration ceremony, special religious rituals were performed within the temple premises. Amidst the chanting of mantras by Pandit Vinay Pathak and other priests, ministers and administrative officials offered prayers to Baba Garibnath, Baba Dudhnath, and Baba Khageshwarnath.
Jalabhishek was performed at the temple, praying for the welfare and prosperity of the country and the state.
Throughout the event, the entire temple complex echoed with chants of "Har Har Mahadev" and "Bam Bam Bhole." Thousands of kanwariyas and devotees who arrived from distant places also stood in queues to have the holy darshan of Baba.
Security, Health, and Administrative Preparations
Keeping in mind that lakhs of kanwariyas reach Muzaffarpur from every corner of the country during the holy month of Shrawan, the district administration has put strict arrangements in place:
Control Room and Surveillance: A centralized control room has been established to monitor every activity across the fair zone. Police forces and magistrates have been deployed at every nook and cranny for security.
Sanitation and Drinking Water: Amidst challenges regarding cleanliness raised over the past few days, the district administration has ensured robust alternative arrangements for sanitation, pure drinking water, and medical camps along the kanwariya path.
Traffic Management: Entry restrictions for heavy vehicles and route diversions have been implemented in the city so that devotees arriving with chants of 'Bol Bam' do not face any inconvenience.
This fair is not only a symbol of religious faith but also presents a unique example of Muzaffarpur's social and cultural unity.
