Divisional-Level Training Programme Organised for Para-Legal Volunteers Focus on Legal Awareness and Ensuring Access to Legal Assistance for Needy People
Bhagalpur : A special training programme for divisional-level Para-Legal Volunteers (PLVs) was organised in Bhagalpur on Sunday. The objective of the programme was to train volunteers in legal assistance, citizens’ rights and ways to effectively provide information about legal services to people in need. During the session, participants were given detailed information about their responsibilities and working procedures.
Para-Legal Volunteers associated with different areas of the Bhagalpur division participated in the programme. They were informed that they play an important role in taking information about legal assistance and legal services to socially vulnerable, disadvantaged and financially weaker sections of society.
Emphasis on Promoting Legal Awareness
Legal awareness was one of the key themes of the training programme. Volunteers were told that many people living in rural and remote areas lack adequate information about their legal rights and available legal services. Para-Legal Volunteers can serve as an important link between such people and the legal services system.
They were informed about ways to educate people about free legal assistance, consultation and other available services. The process of helping needy individuals approach the appropriate legal services institution was also explained.
Responsibilities of Volunteers Explained
The training also focused on the duties and responsibilities of PLVs. Volunteers were told that they should understand the problems faced by people in their respective areas and, when necessary, connect them with legal services institutions.
They were also advised not to provide incorrect or incomplete information in any matter. Instead, volunteers should provide factual information about available legal procedures and help individuals contact the appropriate authority or legal professional.
Need to Reach Vulnerable Sections
Special emphasis was placed on reaching vulnerable sections of society. Volunteers were encouraged to spread awareness among women, children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, economically weaker people and other needy groups about available legal assistance schemes.
Trainers said that people sometimes fail to approach the appropriate forum because they are unaware of legal procedures. In such situations, Para-Legal Volunteers can provide initial guidance and help them access the appropriate legal services.
Practical Training Provided
The programme included discussions on practical situations in addition to theoretical information. Volunteers were trained in communicating with people, listening carefully to their concerns and guiding them towards the appropriate legal service.
Participants also raised questions and shared challenges they face while working in their respective areas. Trainers provided guidance on dealing with such situations effectively.
Effort to Strengthen Legal Services
According to the organisers, such training programmes are aimed at strengthening the legal services system at the grassroots level. Trained PLVs can work in their respective areas to make people aware of their legal rights and available assistance.
This can help needy individuals receive timely guidance and connect them with appropriate legal services.
