District Tuberculosis Department Gets Three New Technicians, Boosting the TB-Free India Campaign

Purnia: In a significant boost to the TB-Free India Campaign, the District Tuberculosis (TB) Department in Purnia has been strengthened with the addition of three new laboratory technicians. The deployment of the new technical staff is expected to enhance tuberculosis diagnosis, improve patient screening, and accelerate treatment services across the district.

Health officials believe that the additional manpower will help speed up laboratory testing, ensure timely delivery of diagnostic reports, and strengthen ongoing efforts to eliminate tuberculosis from the district. The development comes at a crucial time, as the department is actively implementing the 100-Day TB-Free India Campaign, aimed at identifying undiagnosed TB patients and expanding access to treatment.

Major Boost to the TB-Free India Campaign

The Government of India has set an ambitious goal of eliminating tuberculosis through intensified screening, early diagnosis, and uninterrupted treatment. As part of this nationwide initiative, special campaigns are being conducted across states and districts, including Purnia.

Officials from the District Tuberculosis Department said that health teams are conducting extensive screening in both rural and urban areas to identify suspected TB cases. The appointment of three additional laboratory technicians will significantly improve the department's capacity to process the increasing number of diagnostic samples generated during the campaign.

Increased Diagnostic Capacity

According to the District TB Department, the arrival of the new technicians will substantially improve laboratory efficiency. Earlier, a shortage of technical staff often delayed the testing process and the release of diagnostic reports.

With the additional personnel, sputum samples and other diagnostic tests can now be processed more quickly, enabling doctors to begin treatment at the earliest possible stage. Health experts emphasize that early detection is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of tuberculosis and improve patient outcomes.

Ongoing 100-Day Special Campaign

Under the 100-Day TB-Free India Campaign, health workers are visiting villages and urban neighborhoods to identify people showing symptoms of tuberculosis. Individuals experiencing a persistent cough for more than two weeks, unexplained weight loss, prolonged fever, night sweats, or general weakness are being encouraged to undergo free TB screening.

Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), and TB department personnel are jointly conducting awareness drives while collecting sputum samples from suspected patients for laboratory testing.

Use of Modern Diagnostic Technology

The District Tuberculosis Department stated that modern diagnostic technologies are being used to detect TB quickly and accurately. Advanced testing methods, including CBNAAT (Cartridge-Based Nucleic Acid Amplification Test), are helping health authorities identify tuberculosis cases within a short period.

The newly appointed technicians will assist in operating these advanced diagnostic systems, improving laboratory efficiency and ensuring faster and more reliable test results for patients.

Timely Treatment for Patients

Patients diagnosed with tuberculosis receive free medicines and medical care under the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP). Health officials said that every diagnosed patient is regularly monitored throughout the treatment period to ensure complete adherence to medication, which is essential for successful recovery.

Medical experts emphasized that tuberculosis is a curable disease if diagnosed early and treated properly. They urged people not to ignore symptoms and to seek medical attention without delay.

Strong Focus on Public Awareness

In addition to testing and treatment, the Health Department is placing significant emphasis on public awareness. Information campaigns are being conducted in villages, panchayats, schools, and community centers to educate people about the symptoms, prevention, and treatment of tuberculosis.

Officials also stressed the importance of eliminating social stigma associated with TB, encouraging patients to seek medical care without fear or hesitation.

Health Officials Express Optimism

District Tuberculosis Department officials expressed confidence that the addition of three laboratory technicians will significantly strengthen the campaign. They said the department's primary objective is to identify as many undiagnosed TB patients as possible and ensure that they receive timely diagnosis and treatment.

They appealed to residents to visit the nearest government health facility immediately if they experience symptoms such as a persistent cough lasting more than two weeks, fever, unexplained weight loss, or other signs associated with tuberculosis.

Community Participation Is Essential

Public health experts believe that eliminating tuberculosis requires active participation from the entire community, not just the health department. They emphasized that timely testing, adherence to prescribed treatment, and public awareness are key factors in achieving the goal of a TB-free India.

The Health Department has also appealed to non-governmental organizations, community leaders, and social institutions to actively support awareness campaigns and encourage people to undergo early screening.

A Positive Step for the District's Healthcare System

The deployment of three new laboratory technicians is being viewed as a positive development for Purnia's healthcare infrastructure. It is expected to strengthen diagnostic services while ensuring that TB patients receive faster, more efficient, and high-quality healthcare.

Health officials believe that the combination of additional technical manpower, modern diagnostic facilities, widespread public awareness, and strong community participation will significantly accelerate Purnia's progress toward eliminating tuberculosis. With enhanced resources and renewed commitment, the District Tuberculosis Department aims to make the TB-Free India Campaign more effective and contribute to reducing the burden of tuberculosis across the district.
