Children Learn the Art of Craftsmanship on 'Bagless Day'; Create Attractive Bags from Paper and Cloth
Goradih/Jagdishpur (Bhagalpur): With the aim of moving education beyond textbooks and connecting it with practical skills, a 'Bagless Day' was organized on Saturday in all government schools of the Jagdishpur block. On this special day, not only was the burden of heavy school bags lifted from the children's shoulders, but they also learned to make bags from paper and cloth through the 'learning by doing' method.
The Message of Environmental Conservation
The main highlight of the program organized in the schools of the Goradih region was 'Best from Waste'. Under the guidance of their teachers, children prepared attractive and sturdy bags using old newspapers, waste paper, and scraps of cloth brought from home. The primary objective of this activity was to make children aware of a plastic-free society. They were taught how plastic is hazardous to the environment and how cloth or paper bags can be a superior alternative.
Remarkable Enthusiasm Among Children
In the schools, Saturday was dedicated entirely to creative activities. While the children were showcasing their creativity, there was a unique joy on their faces. Students from classes 6 to 8 enthusiastically prepared their own bags using needles, thread, and glue.
Expressing her happiness, one student said, "Today, we didn't have to bring our school bags; instead, we learned to make bags ourselves here at school. Now, I will use this bag when I go to the market." Teachers believe that such events help develop a sense of self-reliance among children.
A Glimpse of Vocational Training Provided by Teachers
Principals of various schools in the Jagdishpur block stated that, as per the directives of the State Education Project, a 'Bagless Day' is celebrated every Saturday. The theme for this Saturday was 'Skill Development'. The teachers did not just teach the children how to make bags, but also discussed their utility and the nuances of becoming self-reliant by making them. These small steps will prove helpful in inspiring children toward entrepreneurship in the future.
A Positive Message for Society
According to Education Department officials, the objective of 'Bagless Day' is to reduce the mental stress of children and foster their holistic development. When children prepare an item with their own hands, their analytical and cognitive abilities develop. By creating these bags, the children not only honed their skills but also promised to inspire their parents to use environment-friendly products.
Following this successful event, an exhibition of the colorful bags made by the students was organized on the school premises. Local residents have also appreciated this initiative by the children. It is hoped that in the coming times, these students will completely abandon plastic in their daily lives, which would be an important step toward a healthy and clean society
