PATNA/JAHANABAD/BHOJPUR: A wave of deep grief swept across Bihar as the mortal remains of two of its brave sons—Flight Lieutenant Shubham Kumar from Jehanabad and Agniveer Danish Alam from Bhojpur—arrived at the Bihta Air Force Station via a special aircraft on Sunday. The two young soldiers lost their lives in the tragic AN-32 aircraft accident at Assam's Jorhat Airbase. Tears rolled down the cheeks of onlookers as the bodies of the heroes were received with full military honors.
Following a solemn wreath-laying ceremony, the mortal remains of the martyrs were dispatched to their respective ancestral villages. All along the route, thousands of locals lined the streets, showering flower petals, waving the national tricolor, and chanting slogans like "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" and "Long Live Martyr Shubham and Danish" to pay a tearful and heartfelt tribute.
"Mom, we are going on a mission..." — Shubham’s Last Words
A pall of gloom descended on the Banwariya village under the Hulasganj block of Jehanabad district, the home of Flight Lieutenant Shubham Kumar. Reeling from the shock, Shubham’s mother, Poonam Devi, recalled her final conversation with her son on Saturday morning.
"He made a video call and said, 'Mom, we are going on a mission, please take care of yourself.' I had absolutely no idea that this would be my last conversation with my boy."
Shubham had just returned to duty on May 29 after spending his vacation at home. His grieving mother wept, saying that if she had even the slightest inkling of the impending tragedy, she would have never let her son leave.
Wedding Dreams Shattered According to family members, Shubham’s wedding was originally scheduled for last December but had to be postponed due to the sudden demise of his grandmother. The family was planning to celebrate the wedding after Holi, but fate cruelly intervened, turning a household preparing for celebrations into one drowned in mourning.
"Serving the nation was Danish's lifelong dream," recalls childhood friend
In Kamariaon village under the Koilwar block of Bhojpur district, a heavy silence hung in the air as locals gathered around the home of martyred Agniveer Danish Alam. Remembering his late friend, Danish's childhood companion, Vishwajeet Tiwari, said:
"Danish was incredibly amiable, disciplined, and filled with a deep sense of patriotism right from his childhood."
"Joining the armed forces and serving the country was his ultimate dream."
"Danish has made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. While we are devastated by his loss, the entire region is immensely proud of his martyrdom. His bravery and dedication will forever inspire the youth."
Tragic AN-32 Crash at Jorhat Airbase
