According to reports, while bathing, the boy suddenly lost his footing and slipped into the rapid, deep currents of the river. His helpless mother and sister screamed desperately for assistance from the riverbank, but before onlookers could register the situation, the teenager vanished beneath the surface. The boy's body was eventually fished out of the water following an intensive search operation by local divers and boatmen. Raman Kumar, a 15-year-old resident of the Asarganj locality (in neighboring Munger district), had traveled to Sultanganj with his mother and sister to take a holy dip on this auspicious day and offer prayers at the Ajgaibinath Temple. The atmosphere at Namami Gange Ghat was celebratory, filled with the resonance of devotional hymns as pilgrims submerged themselves in the holy waters. Raman stepped into the river alongside his mother and sister near the edge of the ghat. However, destiny had planned otherwise; while bathing, his foot slipped on the submerged stairs, plunging him straight into a deep underwater depression.

Body Recovered: Following nearly an hour and a half of grueling search efforts, local divers located the unconscious body of 15-year-old Raman Kumar at the riverbed and brought him ashore using a boat.

Declared Dead at the Hospital: Security personnel and family members immediately rushed the teenager to the local Referral Hospital in Sultanganj. There, after an emergency examination in the casualty ward, the attending physicians declared Raman 'Brought Dead'. Doctors explained that due to massive water ingestion into his lungs and subsequent asphyxiation, he had passed away before reaching medical care.

Absence of SDRF: Pilgrims pointed out that for an event of this scale, motorboats and trained personnel of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) should have been actively patrolling the waters. Had a government rescue team been active on-site, the boy's life might have been saved. As has often been the case, it was the local traditional boatmen who demonstrated swift humanitarian action.
