Workers of Three Major Congress Wings—City Congress Committee, District Congress INTUC, and District Women’s Congress—Raise Their Voice; Massive Protest Against Public Issues and Rising Inflation, Fierce Attack on Government Policies
Bhagalpur, Chief Correspondent: In Bihar’s political and historical center, Bhagalpur, the organizational spirit of the Congress party is currently appearing quite aggressive. In this context, under the joint banner of the Bhagalpur City Congress Committee, District Congress INTUC, and District Women’s Congress, hundreds of party workers and office-bearers united to organize a massive protest and rally in the city. Held against rising inflation, unemployment, labor issues, atrocities against women, and locally prevalent public problems, the program saw Congress workers vent their frustration against the policies of the central and state governments. Carrying party flags and placards, workers chanted anti-government slogans, echoing through the entire area.
Congress Wings Take to a Joint Front: Why Was It Needed?
The coming together of these three important Congress organizations (City Congress, INTUC, and Women's Congress) on a single platform in Bhagalpur signals how serious the party is regarding upcoming political and social issues. During the program, speakers made it clear that today the common citizen of the country and the state is distressed, while governments remain busy concealing their failures.
The City Congress Committee prominently raised issues regarding the city's dilapidated sanitation, lack of pure drinking water, waterlogging, and broken roads.
The District Congress INTUC amplified the rights of unorganized sector workers, factory laborers, bidi workers, and contractual employees.
The District Women’s Congress launched a front against women's safety, surging prices of domestic cooking gas and kitchen essentials, and escalating crimes against women.
Cornering the Government on Inflation and Unemployment Issues
Addressing the rally held during the protest, senior Congress leaders and prominent office-bearers of the wings launched a scathing attack on the central government. They stated that inflation has reached its peak in the country today. Petrol, diesel, cooking gas, and essential food items are slipping beyond the reach of the common man. The youth are wandering from pillar to post for employment, but the government is misleading the public by presenting false statistics.
Speaking specifically in the context of INTUC, speakers remarked that the country's working class is currently the most neglected. Labor laws are being amended in ways that favor capitalists and exploit workers. INTUC workers warned that if minimum wages for laborers are not ensured and their exploitation does not cease, a nationwide agitation will be launched.
Women’s Congress Strikes Out on Women's Safety and Rights
Displaying an aggressive stance during the gathering, leaders of the District Women’s Congress asserted that women and daughters are completely unsafe in society today. Incidents of crime against women are rising day by day, yet the administration remains a mute spectator. Furthermore, unbridled hikes in LPG cylinder prices have shattered household budgets. The Women’s Congress roared that their struggle on the streets will continue until women receive their rightful due and security.
Memorandum Submitted to Administrative Officials, with a Warning
At the conclusion of the protest, a delegation of Congress workers met officials of the district administration and submitted a comprehensive memorandum of demands concerning public welfare. Through the memorandum, a warning was issued that if Bhagalpur's basic problems are not resolved in a timely manner and efforts are not made to curb inflation, the Congress party will be compelled to launch a fierce agitation, the complete responsibility for which will lie with the governance and administration.
This joint protest staged by workers of the Bhagalpur City Congress Committee, District Congress INTUC, and District Women’s Congress serves as proof that the opposition has now taken to the streets over the pain of the public. The coordination among the three wings infused fresh energy and enthusiasm into Congress workers, which will play a significant role in shaping the direction of local politics in the coming days.
