Woman Gang-Raped in Begusarai, Bullet and Stones Inserted into Private Part; Political Outrage Intensifies
A chilling and barbaric incident that shames humanity has come to light from the Begusarai district of Bihar. A married woman was abducted from outside her house, gang-raped, and subjected to extreme physical torture. The horrifying extent of the brutality was exposed only after a team of doctors performed an emergency operation and extracted a live pistol cartridge (bullet), a stone, and a wooden piece from the victim's private part.
Timeline of Events and Extent of Brutality
According to the official complaint lodged by the victim and her family:
Abduction from Outside the House: On the midnight of June 11, the woman stepped outside her house toward the restroom area. Armed miscreants, who were already lying in wait, gagged her, tied her hands and feet, and forcefully dragged her to an isolated spot a short distance away.
Gang-Rape and Torture: The accused took turns gang-raping the woman. When she resisted, they used a sharp blade to inflict deep cuts across her body. The brutality did not stop there; the perpetrators forcefully inserted a live bullet, a stone, and a piece of wood into her private part.
Locking the Husband Inside: To prevent any immediate rescue, the criminals locked the outer latch of the room where the victim's husband was fast asleep. Upon regaining consciousness, the victim somehow managed to drag herself back home.
Medical Oversight and Shocking Discovery During Surgery
On the day following the incident (June 12), the victim was admitted to the Begusarai Sadar Hospital. However, after providing basic first-aid, the doctors discharged her the very same evening. Despite returning home, the woman continued to suffer from unbearable, excruciating pain.
On June 17, as her medical condition deteriorated severely, she was brought back to the Sadar Hospital. When the medical team conducted an ultrasound and an X-ray, they were absolutely shocked. Following the revelation, doctors conducted an emergency operation on June 18 to extract the bullet, stone, and wooden object from her body.
Police Negligence and Named FIR
The victim and her family have leveled serious allegations against the local police administration for initially downplaying the matter and demonstrating gross negligence. As public anger mounted, senior police officials stepped in.
The Accused: The victim has lodged a named FIR against Suraj Kumar, Ramu Mahto, Nitish Mahto, and two other unidentified individuals.
Past Enmity: The family alleges that the same group of miscreants had broken into their house about 4 months ago, attempting to molest the woman and commit robbery. The family claims that because the police failed to take strict action back then, the criminals grew bolder.
Official Police Statement: Sadar SDPO-1 Anand Kumar Pandey visited the hospital to record the victim's statement afresh. The police stated that special investigation teams have been formed and raids are being carried out to nab the fugitives.
CPI Leader Awadhesh Rai Hits Out at Government
The sheer viciousness of the crime has put the law-and-order situation in Bihar under severe scrutiny, with opposition parties launching a fierce attack on the ruling government:
Senior Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Awadhesh Kumar Rai, a prominent face of the grand alliance in Begusarai, visited the Sadar Hospital alongside a Left-wing delegation. He inquired about the victim's health and instructed the medical superintendent to ensure the highest quality of healthcare and psychological support.
Addressing the media, Awadhesh Rai stated: "This stomach-churning incident completely exposes the tall claims of 'good governance' (Su-shasan) in Bihar. Criminals are operating with absolute impunity in Begusarai. Why was no action taken when the family complained 4 months ago? If the police had acted on time, this daughter would not have had to face such horrific barbarism today." The Left parties have issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the administration, warning of a massive district-wide agitation if all named accused are not behind bars immediately.
