Woman Dies After Being Hit by Speeding Tractor; Family Refuses Post-Mortem
Bhagalpur/Kajraili: A horrific road accident on the Kajraili-Bhagalpur road on Saturday morning has plunged the entire region into mourning. Runa Devi (45) was critically injured after being hit by a speeding tractor, and she succumbed to her injuries during treatment at a private clinic. This tragic incident has once again raised serious questions about the reckless speed of uncontrolled vehicles.
A Morning Commute Turned Fatal
According to the information received, Runa Devi was crossing the road for some personal work on Saturday morning. During this time, a speeding, uncontrolled tractor coming from the direction of Kajraili struck her with great force. The impact was so severe that the woman was thrown a considerable distance and suffered critical injuries. Local residents immediately rushed to the scene and took her to a nearby private doctor for treatment. However, due to severe injuries to her head and other parts of her body, her condition continued to deteriorate, and she passed away during treatment.
Family’s Grief and Refusal of Post-Mortem
As soon as the news of the woman’s death broke, her family members reached the hospital. The family is inconsolable, and a wave of grief has swept through the village. When the police took possession of the body and initiated the procedure for a post-mortem, the family firmly refused to allow it. The family stated that they did not wish to get entangled in legal proceedings and wanted to complete the funeral rites as soon as possible.
Despite the police's efforts to persuade them, the family stood by their decision and agreed to take the body for cremation only after refusing the post-mortem. Regarding this, the local police station stated that the body was handed over only after obtaining written consent from the family.
Tractor Driver Fled the Scene
After the accident, the tractor driver abandoned the vehicle at the scene and fled. The police have seized the tractor and are attempting to identify the driver. Nearby residents mentioned that the tractor driver was driving at a very high speed and was operating the vehicle carelessly despite the narrowness of the road. The police are now reviewing CCTV footage to ensure the accused driver is arrested at the earliest.
Serious Questions on Road Safety
Accidents of this nature are not new on the Kajraili-Bhagalpur route. Local residents complain that the unchecked movement of tractors loaded with sand and other heavy vehicles on this route has become a common occurrence. Despite submitting multiple memorandums to the administration, no control has been placed on the speed of these vehicles. Villagers have demanded that the administration strictly enforce traffic rules in the area and set speed limits so that no other family has to face such a tragedy.
Currently, the police are investigating the entire matter. The untimely demise of the victim has left the family in a state of deep shock, and villagers are visiting their home to offer condolences.
