Weather to Change Across Bihar Over the Next 48 Hours; Rain Likely in Patna and Several Districts, Heavy Rain Warning for Kishanganj and Purnia

Patna: Residents of Bihar, who have been struggling with intense heat and humidity, may soon get much-needed relief. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), weather conditions across the state are expected to change significantly over the next 24 to 48 hours. Patna and several other districts are likely to witness partly cloudy skies, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, and gusty winds. Meanwhile, a heavy rainfall warning has been issued for the districts of Kishanganj and Purnia. Meteorologists attribute the changing weather to increased moisture from the Bay of Bengal and strengthening monsoon activity, which is expected to bring down temperatures further in the coming days.

Weather Begins to Shift

The weather started changing across many parts of Bihar on Friday evening. After a day of intense sunshine and oppressive humidity, clouds gathered over several districts, accompanied by cooler winds. Light showers were also reported in some areas, providing temporary relief from the scorching heat.

Weather experts say this marks a strengthening of monsoon activity. Over the next two days, cloud cover is expected to increase across the state, with rainfall likely at several locations.

Rain Expected in Patna and Several Other Districts

According to the weather forecast, districts including Patna, Gaya, Nalanda, Bhojpur, Buxar, Jehanabad, Arwal, Vaishali, Samastipur, Begusarai, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Saran, and nearby areas are expected to experience partly cloudy skies along with scattered rainfall.

Some places may also witness thunderstorms and strong winds. The Meteorological Department has advised residents to avoid open fields, tall trees, and electric poles during adverse weather conditions to reduce the risk of lightning-related accidents.

Heavy Rain Alert for Kishanganj and Purnia

The northeastern districts of Kishanganj and Purnia are expected to receive heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours. The IMD has issued a special warning for both districts and advised local authorities to remain on high alert.

Heavy rainfall could lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas, overflowing drains, and temporary disruptions to road traffic. Farmers and residents have been urged to follow weather advisories and take necessary precautions.

Temperatures Decline Across the State

The changing weather has already begun to affect temperatures. On Friday, maximum temperatures declined in 22 districts across Bihar, including Patna. The arrival of clouds and evening winds brought noticeable relief from the intense daytime heat.

Patna recorded a maximum temperature of 39.0°C, which remained above normal but was lower than in previous days.

However, Bhabua (Kaimur district) remained the hottest location in Bihar, recording a maximum temperature of 42.2°C. The district experienced intense heat throughout the day, although weather conditions improved slightly by evening.

Relief from Heat and Humidity

For the past several days, most parts of Bihar have experienced extreme heat combined with high humidity, making outdoor activities difficult. Streets remained relatively deserted during the afternoon, while electricity demand increased due to the extensive use of cooling appliances.

Meteorologists say that if the forecast rainfall materializes, temperatures could drop by another 2–4 degrees Celsius, significantly reducing humidity and providing widespread relief.

Positive Outlook for Farmers

The expected rainfall is also considered beneficial for agriculture. Farmers in several districts have been waiting for adequate rainfall to begin paddy transplantation. Timely showers will improve soil moisture, helping accelerate sowing and transplantation of Kharif crops.

Agricultural experts have advised farmers in areas expecting moderate rainfall to complete field preparations. In districts likely to receive heavy rain, they have recommended ensuring proper drainage systems to prevent crop damage caused by waterlogging.

Health Experts Issue Precautions

Doctors have warned that sudden weather changes can increase the risk of seasonal illnesses such as viral infections, colds, coughs, and fever. They have advised people to stay hydrated, consume fresh food, and dress appropriately according to changing weather conditions.

Residents have also been urged to remain indoors during thunderstorms and avoid open spaces to minimize the risk of lightning strikes.

Administration on Alert

Following the heavy rainfall warning, district administrations in vulnerable areas have been instructed to remain prepared. Authorities are closely monitoring low-lying localities that are prone to waterlogging, while municipal bodies have been directed to ensure proper drainage and clear blocked drains.

The State Disaster Management Department is also monitoring weather developments and has kept emergency response teams ready for deployment if necessary.

Weather Outlook for the Coming Days

According to the Meteorological Department, most parts of Bihar will continue to experience cloudy conditions over the next two days. Light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, is expected in several districts, while heavy rainfall remains likely in parts of the Seemanchal region.

If the current monsoon activity continues, widespread rainfall is expected across Bihar during the first week of July. This would bring temperatures closer to normal levels and provide substantial relief from the prolonged heatwave. The Meteorological Department has advised residents to stay updated with official weather forecasts and follow safety guidelines during adverse weather conditions.
