Truck Hits Vehicle Carrying Devotees; Pilgrims Escape Unharmed
Sultanganj (Bhagalpur): During the holy month of Sawan, the route from Sultanganj to Deoghar experiences immense crowds of Kanwariyas (pilgrims) and heavy pressure of vehicular traffic. Amidst this, a heartbreaking road accident was narrowly averted near Sultanganj on Monday. A speeding truck rammed into a four-wheeler carrying Kanwariyas. Fortunately, no devotee suffered any serious injuries in this accident, although the vehicle was severely damaged.
Details of the Incident
According to the information received, there was a long queue of vehicles on the road heading toward Deoghar via Sultanganj on Monday. Suddenly, a truck went out of control and rammed into the Kanwariyas' four-wheeler moving ahead of it from behind. The collision was so forceful that the rear portion of the vehicle was completely crushed. People nearby and other Kanwariyas were terrified at the time of the incident, as everyone feared that the impact might have affected a large number of people.
Devotees Narrowly Escape
It was nothing short of a miracle for all the Kanwariyas riding in the vehicle that they did not even suffer a scratch. Immediately after the accident, local people reached the spot and helped the passengers out of the vehicle. The devotees were completely safe, but the fear was clearly visible on their faces. The passengers in the vehicle stated, "It is only due to the grace of Baba Bholenath that we are safe today; otherwise, the speed of the truck was such that anything could have happened."
Resolution Through Mutual Agreement
Following the incident, there was a brief period of chaos and tension on the road. A heated argument broke out between the truck driver and the driver of the four-wheeler. However, seeing the matter escalate, both drivers, through the mediation of local residents, engaged in talks. The truck driver admitted his mistake and assured them that he would cover the cost of repairs and compensate for the damage. Subsequently, a consensus was reached between both parties and the matter was resolved. Both drivers reached a mutual settlement before the police arrived at the scene, which provided relief from a major legal complication.
Traffic Pressure and Challenges on the Kanwaria Path
During Sawan, the journey from Sultanganj to Deoghar is dedicated entirely to the Kanwariyas. In view of this, strict instructions are issued by the administration for traffic control.
Operation of Trucks: During Sawan, the entry of heavy cargo vehicles into Sultanganj is prohibited during the day. Despite this, many truck drivers enter the main route secretly, which causes accidents.
Need for Caution: The district administration has appealed to the drivers of Kanwaria vehicles to drive at a very low speed in crowded areas and always make proper use of their vehicle's headlights and indicators.
Questions on Administrative Vigilance
This incident has made it clear that despite claims of security on the Kanwaria path, there is still a lot of work to be done. Local residents say that:
Traffic police deployment should be increased at various points on the roads of Sultanganj.
Strict compliance with 'No-Entry' rules on the roads should be ensured.
For any emergency situation, mobile vans and cranes should be available every 5 kilometers so that immediate relief can be provided in case of traffic jams and accidents.
Everyone driving on this route needs to learn a lesson from this incident in Sultanganj. The month of Sawan is a time of devotion and faith, not for risking lives by being in a hurry. Even though there were no casualties in this accident, it serves as a warning. The administration and the public must work together to ensure that the journey of Baba's devotees is pleasant and safe.
