Location: Patohwa (Jamunha) Village, Kateya Police Station Area, Gopalganj (Bihar)
Victim: Sonu Gond (Age: 32 years), Resident of Mahua Patan, Deoria (Uttar Pradesh)
A heart-wrenching incident has come to light from the Kateya police station area of Gopalganj district in Bihar. Sonu Gond, a male dancer from Deoria, Uttar Pradesh (who was performing cross-dressed in female attire), was brutally shot dead during a cultural dance program organized at a wedding ceremony. The shootout triggered absolute chaos and a stampede at the venue, turning the wedding celebrations into a scene of profound mourning.
Detailed Account & Two Main Angles of the Dispute
The wedding procession (Baarat) had arrived from Uttar Pradesh to the residence of Mahendra Kushwaha, a local resident of Patohwa village. Ramayan Yadav's cultural dance troupe was hired to entertain the guests. During the performance, a sudden altercation took place, and Sonu Gond was shot in the stomach at point-blank range. Two initial versions of the incident have emerged:
Resistance to Abduction Attempt: According to several eyewitnesses and local claims, Sonu Gond was resting backstage after completing his performance. A few local, aggressive youths approached him and tried to forcefully drag him to an isolated location. When Sonu strongly resisted their attempt, the enraged youths shot him in the stomach.
Dispute Over Song Demand: On the other hand, according to the manager of the dance troupe and initial police findings, three village youths had demanded a specific song of their choice to be played. When the song was not played, an argument broke out with Sonu. As the altercation escalated, the accused began assaulting Sonu, and during the scuffle, one of the youths pulled out a pistol and fired into his stomach.
Succumbed to Injuries En Route to the Hospital
Sonu Gond collapsed on the spot, bleeding profusely. Fellow artists and attendees rushed him to the nearest healthcare facility (Panchdevari Community Health Centre). However, due to the depth of the wound and excessive blood loss, Sonu tragically breathed his last on the way. Doctors declared him brought dead upon arrival.
Police Investigation and FIR
Upon receiving news of the incident, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Kateya police station, Awadhish Kumar, rushed to the spot with a police force. The police took custody of the body and sent it to the Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Official Police Statement: "Based on the eyewitness account given by the dance troupe manager, Ramayan Yadav, an FIR has been registered against three unidentified youths. Special police teams have been formed to identify the accused. Continuous raids are being conducted at suspected hideouts to ensure their swift arrest."
Three Innocent Children Left Orphaned
The deceased, Sonu Gond, had been working as a performing artist with various drama and dance troupes for the past 7 years. Following the demise of his parents, Sonu was the sole breadwinner of his family, supporting them entirely through his art. With his sudden and brutal death, his wife, three innocent children, and a younger brother have lost their sole support system, leaving them in a severe financial crisis. The incident has sparked immense grief and outrage among the local community and fellow performing artists.
