Today is the historic day of August 15, 2026, when our great nation India is celebrating its 80th Independence Day with immense joy, festive spirit, and full enthusiasm. As we breathe upon this sacred soil of our country, a distinct pride fills our hearts and our eyes sparkle. When the tricolor flag proudly flutters from the ramparts of the Red Fort, a wave of patriotism surges through every fiber of our being.
On this occasion, I stand before you all to express a few of my thoughts on this auspicious festival of Independence. Let us turn the pages of history for a few moments, pay homage to those great souls thanks to whom we breathe freely today, and take a pledge to make our nation the crown jewel of the world.
Pages of History: The Untold Saga of Sacrifice and Struggle
My dear friends, freedom was not handed to us on a silver platter. Behind it lay centuries of struggle, countless sacrifices, and the endless devotion of patriots. When we were subjugated by the British, the atrocities endured by our countrymen were hair-raising.
The Confluence of Non-Violence and Revolution: The 'non-violent movements' spearheaded under Mahatma Gandhi's leadership (such as the Non-Cooperation Movement and the Quit India Movement) shook the foundations of the British Raj. Simultaneously, brave revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Sukhdev, Rajguru, Subhas Chandra Bose, and Ashfaqulla Khan staked their youth and lives to make the British Empire realize that Indians would no longer remain bound in chains of slavery.
The Creation of a Unified India: That midnight of August 15, 1947, when India's first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, declared in his famous speech 'Tryst with Destiny' that while the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom—that moment was the most golden chapter in Indian history.
Eight Decades of Glorious Journey: What We Lost, What We Gained
Today our country is completing 80 years of its independence. Across these eight decades, we have achieved unprecedented progress as a nation. The country once mocked by the British as a 'land of snake charmers' is today challenging global superpowers in science, technology, economics, and space exploration.
Dominance in Technology and Space: Today India has scripted history in space science by successfully executing missions like Chandrayaan and Mangalyaan. Today the youth of our nation are carrying forward the banner of the digital revolution (Digital India) across the entire globe.
Agriculture and Self-Reliance: A country that once depended on others for food grains is today feeding numerous nations across the world through the sheer hard work of its farmers. From sports arenas to the world of startups, the brilliance of Indian youth echoes everywhere.
The True Meaning of Freedom and Our Present Responsibilities
Friends, freedom did not merely mean liberation from British rule. True freedom will arrive only when evils such as poverty, illiteracy, corruption, gender discrimination, and narrow-mindedness are completely eradicated from our society.
Respect for the Constitution: Our Constitution grants us rights, but it simultaneously assigns us duties. As good citizens, we must respect our Constitution and abide by the laws of the land.
The Role of Youth: Today India stands as the youngest nation in the world. A massive share of the population comprises youth. If youth channel their hard work in the right direction, nothing can stop India from becoming a 'Developed Nation'. Instead of wasting our energy on negativity, we must dedicate it to nation-building.
Let Us Take a New Pledge
Today, on this auspicious occasion of the 80th Independence Day, let us all pledge together that:
We will safeguard the unity and integrity of our nation.
We will plant maximum trees to protect the environment and make cleanliness a part of our lives.
We will faithfully discharge our duties, for a responsible citizen constitutes the greatest strength of a nation.
Let us once again wholeheartedly salute those immortal martyrs whose martyrdom allows us to breathe proudly in this independent India today.
