Special Arrangements for Kanwariyas from Sultanganj to Deoghar, High-Level Facilities to be Available in Camps and Dharamshalas
Bhagalpur/Sultanganj: With the commencement of the world-famous Shravani Mela 2026, preparations have reached their final stages in Sultanganj and along the entire Kanwariya path. Considering the arrival of millions of devotees of Lord Shiva this year, the Bihar Government and the district administration have made unprecedented arrangements for the safety, health, and comfort of the pilgrims. This time, the Kanwariya route from Sultanganj to Munger and Banka has been equipped with 'VIP' facilities to ensure that pilgrims walking the path do not face any difficulties.
A Robust Network of Health Services
Special emphasis has been placed on health facilities within the fairgrounds. A total of 13 state-of-the-art temporary health camps will operate along the route from Sultanganj to Deoghar. The key features of these camps are:
24/7 Service: These camps will remain active around the clock, with doctors and paramedical staff deployed in three shifts.
Specialist Deployment: A total of 39 medical officers (doctors) have been assigned duty. Additionally, mobile health vans have been made available for emergencies.
Adequate Stock of Medicines: A stock of 139 types of essential medicines has been maintained, including complete arrangements for treating fatigue, dehydration, blisters on feet, fever, and snakebites (Anti-Snake Venom).
Emergency Referrals: Robust ambulance arrangements have been made to immediately transport critical patients to district hospitals or advanced medical centers.
High-Level Comfort and Basic Amenities
The level of facilities in Dharamshalas (rest houses) and camps has been elevated this year for the pilgrims' rest. Special arrangements have been made along the Kanwariya path in Munger and Bhagalpur:
Swiss Cottages and German Hangars: Modern Swiss cottages and German hangars have been installed to provide secure and well-organized shelter.
Respect and Facilities for Women: To facilitate women, 15 modern bathroom complexes have been constructed separately along the Kanwariya path.
Drinking Water: For uninterrupted drinking water supply, the PHED has installed free 'water fountains/coolers' at several locations, along with RO water facilities.
Sanitation: A special team has been deployed for cleaning from the Namami Gange Ghat to the entire Kanwariya route to ensure hygiene in the fair premises.
Tight Security Arrangements
Prioritizing security above all, the administration has increased the scope of surveillance:
Drones and Patrolling: The fair area will be monitored via drones. Police teams—on foot, bikes, and horseback—will patrol the Kanwariya path 24/7.
Modern Infrastructure: A modern foot-overbridge built at a cost of ₹120 million (12 crore) at Sultanganj Railway Station is being dedicated to pilgrims, which will facilitate crowd control.
Traffic Control: To ensure the safety of pilgrims, the movement of heavy and double-decker vehicles has been completely banned on the main routes.
Deployment of Volunteer 'Mela Mitras'
In a unique initiative this year, 150 volunteers known as 'Mela Mitras' have been deployed. These volunteers will remain active along the path to assist Kanwariyas, provide directions, and help resolve any issues they might encounter.
Shravani Mela 2026 is a major test for the administration, but the final touches given to the arrangements from Sultanganj to Deoghar make it clear that this year's Kanwar Yatra will be safer, better organized, and more convenient than in previous years. As Kanwariyas start their journey after filling their vessels with water from the Uttarvahini Ganga Ghat in Sultanganj, they will not only find spiritual peace, but these government-level arrangements will ensure their journey is memorable and trouble-free.
