Sensational Incident in Saharsa Civil Court Premises: Accused Nitish Kumar Flees Police Custody During Remand, Injured After Jumping Wall into Pond and Rearrested
Saharsa: A major lapse in security and a daring incident have come to light from the Saharsa Civil Court premises, located at the district headquarters in Bihar. Panic and chaos erupted in the judiciary when, on July 19, during the production and remand process in the court, a cunning accused successfully fled from police custody. In a very clever manner, the accused made an excuse to use the toilet and then, deceiving the security guards deployed for his protection, scaled the high wall of the court. In his haste to escape, he fell directly into a nearby pond, sustaining serious injuries. However, showing promptness, the police force surrounded him from all sides and, after strenuous efforts, captured him once again. This incident has raised serious questions regarding the security arrangements of the court premises.
Background of the Incident and the Game of Escaping During Remand
According to the information received, the police had arrested a youth named accused Nitish Kumar in connection with a case. As per rules, he was to be produced before the Saharsa court on July 19 on remand under judicial custody.
Excuse of Toilet and Lapse by Security Personnel: Before his presentation in the court premises or during paperwork, the accused Nitish Kumar expressed an upset stomach or a desire to use the toilet. In accordance with humanity and procedure, the security personnel and chowkidars deployed in police escort permitted him to go to the toilet.
Suddenly Executed Move: Under the pretext of going to the toilet, he moved toward a safe spot, but something else was going on in his mind. As soon as he got a slight opportunity, avoiding the gaze of the police personnel, he began executing his plan to escape.
Jumping the Court Wall and Falling into a Pond to Get Injured
Giving the slip to the police, the accused Nitish Kumar ran toward the boundary wall of the court premises.
Attempt to Escape by Scaling the Wall: Without caring for his life, he leaped onto the high boundary wall of the court premises and crossed it. However, he had no idea what the terrain on the other side of the wall was like.
Falling into a Pond and Getting Injured: Immediately after jumping the wall, in his haste, he fell straight into a deep pond or water-filled pit located below. Falling into the pond caused him serious injuries, and he got badly stuck in the water and mud, which slowed down his escape speed.
Prompt Encirclement by Police Force and Rearrest
As soon as news of the accused escaping reached the security personnel and the police force on duty, a siren-like situation developed across the entire court premises. A search operation was immediately launched under the directions of police officials.
Accused Captured in Injured State: When the police team chased the escape route, they found that Nitish Kumar had fallen into the pond, was injured, and was unable to escape due to his injuries. Without delay, with the help of local residents and other jawans, the police pulled him out of the pond.
Treatment in Hospital and Strict Security: Captured in a mud-soaked, waterlogged, and injured condition, the accused was immediately taken into custody by the police, and seeing his serious condition, he was sent to Sadar Hospital for treatment, where he was treated under police guard.
Questions Raised on Security Arrangements and Administrative Reaction
Following this daring incident, serious question marks have once again been raised over the security arrangements of the Saharsa Civil Court.
Investigation into Negligence: There is intense discussion in administrative circles as to how an accused managed to walk so far under the pretext of using the toilet in a hyper-secure area like the court premises, and why security personnel failed to monitor his movements.
Additional Legal Action: Police officials state that apart from previous cases, a new criminal case (FIR) is being registered against Nitish Kumar for escaping from police custody, obstructing government work, and deceiving security. This incident has caused panic in both the police department and the jail administration, and robust security arrangements are being put in place to prevent such incidents in the future.
