Road or Quagmire of Mud in Kathdumar Panchayat of Kosi Diyara Region? Exposure of Pradhan Mantri and Mukhya Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana; Villagers Distressed Due to Roads Converted into Potholes, Life Made Miserable
The gap between claims of development and ground reality in the Kosi and Diyara regions of Bihar often exposes the administrative setup. A similarly pathetic and spine-chilling picture of road dilapidation has emerged from Kathdumar Panchayat, situated within the Kosi Diyara region under the Purnia district. Here, roads constructed with great fanfare under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and Mukhya Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana have been completely ruined in the rainy season.
The lives of people in the area have turned into a living hell recently because these roads, claimed to be paved, have converted into deep potholes and quagmires due to rainwater and mud. Traffic is completely disrupted, forcing school children, elderly citizens, patients, and common villagers to face severe hardships. Due to departmental apathy and heavy irregularities committed during construction work, immense outrage prevails among villagers against the governance and administration.
What is the Whole Matter? (Ground Reality of Kathdumar Panchayat)
The Kosi Diyara region is anyway considered geographically quite inaccessible; under such circumstances, the dilapidated state of roads has multiplied the problems of local residents manifold.
Mere Formalities in the Name of Schemes: To provide smooth transportation facilities to villagers in Kathdumar Panchayat, rural roads were constructed some time ago under the Prime Minister and Chief Minister rural road schemes. At that time, people thought their decades-old troubles had finally ended.
Roads Worn Away in the Very First Rain: However, the result of substandard construction was that as soon as monsoon rains commenced, roads began washing away in water. Tar and gravel peeled off and scattered, and the entire road got smeared with mud.
Vehicles and Pedestrians Trapped in Quagmire: The current situation is that even walking on these roads has become perilous. Leave aside two-wheelers; even four-wheelers and tractors routinely fall prey to accidents after getting stuck in these muddy potholes.
Villagers' Pain and Hardships
The daily lives of ordinary citizens in Kathdumar Panchayat have come to a complete standstill lately. With means of transportation crippled, people across all sections of society are struggling with immense miseries.
Access to Healthcare Services Impossible: If someone suddenly falls ill in the panchayat or a pregnant woman needs to be taken to a hospital, the passage of an ambulance through these routes becomes impossible. Due to the unavailability of timely treatment, danger constantly hovers over patients' lives.
Eclipse on Children's Education: Due to mud and massive potholes, small children have stopped going to school. Parents are afraid to send their kids onto these death-trap muddy routes, resulting in losses to their education.
Farmers' Economic Backbone Broken: The Diyara region is primarily agricultural, and farmers here transport their produce to markets for sale. However, due to bad roads, farmers are neither able to take their yield to markets on time nor secure fair prices.
Serious Allegations of Corruption and Administrative Negligence
Villagers and local intellectuals have directly held contractors, engineers, and departmental officials responsible for this wretched state.
Ignorance of Standards: Villagers allege that rules and standards were openly flouted during road construction. Tar was laid on the upper surface without strengthening the base, so that everything looked fine at the time of inauguration.
No Hearing Even After Complaints: Locals state that they apprised local representatives and concerned department officials of this deteriorating situation multiple times, but received only false assurances every time. No steps were taken to effect improvements on the ground.
Warning of Agitation: The patience of villagers has now run out. The people of Kathdumar Panchayat have warned that if repairs and a high-level inquiry into these roads are not conducted immediately and action taken against culprits, they will be compelled to besiege the block headquarters.
This dilapidated picture of the Pradhan Mantri and Mukhya Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in Kathdumar Panchayat of the Kosi Diyara region is sufficient to prove that no matter how magnificent development scheme statistics may look on paper, the reality on the ground is terrifying. If connecting routes, termed the backbone of rural India, remain converted into mud and potholes in this manner, every vision of development will remain incomplete. It remains to be seen when the district administration takes cognizance of this grave matter, looks after these roads, and rescues villagers from this hellish life.
