Rising Water Level of Ganga in Naugachia Surveillance on Embankments Intensified, Administration on High Alert
NAUGACHIA (Bhagalpur): With the monsoon becoming active, the water levels of rivers across several districts of Bihar have started rising rapidly. This is having a direct impact on the coastal areas of the Naugachia sub-division. According to recent reports, a continuous rise in the water level of the Ganga river is being recorded at Spur Number-07 located at Ismailpur-Bindtoli and the Madarouni gauge site, raising concerns among residents of the low-lying areas.
Water Level Status: Details of the Last 24 Hours
According to the latest data received from the Flood Control Division, the water level of the Ganga at Ismailpur-Bindtoli Spur-07 was recorded at 28.46 meters on the morning of July 19, 2026. A notable increase of 23 centimeters has been observed over the last 24 hours. Simultaneously, the river water is also rising at the Madarouni gauge site, where the water level was recorded at approximately 28.76 meters.
Experts state that this rise is due to heavy monsoon rains. Although the water level is still significantly below the warning and danger marks, meaning there is no immediate threat of a major disaster, the rising water has certainly become a subject of vigilance for the local administration.
Embankments Secure, Yet Vigilance Necessary
Despite the rising water level of the Ganga, the Flood Control Department has clarified that all embankments are currently completely secure and under control. Senior department officials have inspected the coastal areas and found that the pressure of the water on the embankments is normal. There are no immediate reports of any erosion or seepage.
Nevertheless, the administration has increased its vigilance as a precautionary measure. Flood-prone areas are being monitored 24/7. Engineers have been instructed to keep a constant watch on the spurs and sensitive points so that any potential threat can be identified and mitigated in a timely manner.

The Naugachia administration has not declared a "high alert" status regarding floods, but has advised the public to remain cautious. The Flood Control Division has appealed to local residents to immediately inform the nearest police station or the disaster management office if they notice any riverbank erosion or unusual activity on the embankments.
In view of potential flood challenges, the administration has already begun taking protective measures. Teams have been directed to remain prepared to provide assistance during a disaster, and an assessment of boats and relief materials is underway.
