The stagnant dirty water and muddy roads have created major difficulties for common people, school students, vehicle drivers, and shopkeepers. On Wednesday, a TOTO vehicle overturned due to the waterlogged road, injuring the driver and around half a dozen students. Following the incident, local residents became more angry and started protesting on the road.
Residents Troubled by Waterlogging for Ten Years
According to local residents, the Siur Road in Roh market faces waterlogging every year after rainfall due to the lack of proper drainage arrangements. Despite several complaints, the problem has not been permanently resolved.
People said that water remains accumulated on the road for several days, making movement difficult. Pedestrians are forced to walk through dirty water, while two-wheelers and four-wheelers also face problems while passing through the area.
Local shopkeepers said that waterlogging has also affected their businesses. Customers avoid visiting shops due to the poor condition of the road, resulting in financial losses.
TOTO Accident Leaves Driver and Students Injured
A major accident was narrowly avoided on Wednesday due to the waterlogged road. According to information, the condition of Siur Road had become dangerous because of stagnant water and mud. During this time, a TOTO vehicle lost control and overturned.
The accident injured the TOTO driver and around half a dozen students travelling in the vehicle. After the incident, nearby residents immediately reached the spot and rescued the injured people.
Local residents said that minor and major accidents frequently occur due to poor road conditions and waterlogging. They warned that if the issue is not resolved soon, a serious accident could happen in the future.
Road Blockade to Protest Against Negligence
After the accident, residents blocked the Siur Road. A large number of local people gathered on the road and raised slogans against the administration.
The protesters said that officials and public representatives have been giving assurances for years, but no effective work has been done on the ground. They demanded immediate arrangements for proper drainage and repair of the damaged road.
The road blockade affected traffic movement for some time, causing inconvenience to commuters.
Demand for Immediate Action from Administration
The protesters demanded immediate intervention from the administration. They said that the situation becomes worse during the rainy season, making urgent action necessary.
Residents demanded that cleaning of drains, improvement of drainage facilities, and road repair work should be carried out on priority.
People alleged that the same situation occurs every year during monsoon, but no concrete steps have been taken for a permanent solution.
Authorities Informed About the Situation
After receiving information about the road blockade, local administration and police officials were informed. Officials reached the spot and tried to convince the protesters.
The administration assured residents that steps would be taken to address the issue. However, local people said that they no longer want only assurances but actual work on the ground.
Questions Raised Over Drainage System
The incident in Roh market has once again raised questions over drainage systems in rural and semi-urban areas. Residents said that proper drainage should be given priority during development projects.
Failure to drain rainwater damages roads, affects daily life, and increases the risk of accidents.
Experts believe that waterlogging cannot be solved only through temporary measures. Proper planning of drains, regular cleaning, and an effective drainage system are necessary for a permanent solution.
Growing Anger Among Residents
Local residents said that they have been suffering from this problem for a long time. Repeated complaints without proper action have increased frustration among people.
Residents warned that if the issue is not resolved soon, they may be forced to launch a larger protest.
Hope for Early Resolution
At present, the administration has assured residents of resolving the problem. People are now waiting to see when concrete steps will be taken to remove the waterlogging issue on Siur Road.
Residents of Roh market said that they are not against development or public order, but they were forced to come onto the streets due to the failure to resolve a decade-old problem.
The incident highlights how the lack of basic facilities can create serious difficulties for local communities. The administration now faces the challenge of finding a permanent solution to the waterlogging problem and providing relief to residents.
