Renovation of Bhagalpur Railway Station: Modernization of Tracks to Boost Train Speeds; 60kg Rails Replacing 52kg Tracks
Bhagalpur: A significant infrastructure project has commenced at Bhagalpur Railway Station, aimed at enhancing passenger safety and streamlining train operations. Work is being carried out on a war footing to replace tracks across platforms one through six. Under this modernization initiative, the aging 52kg rails are being removed and replaced with new, robust 60kg rails, ensuring that the operation of long-distance mail and express trains can proceed without any technical interruptions.
Why Was the Track Replacement Necessary?
According to the Railway Engineering Department, 52kg rails were previously in use on the main lines and platforms. Due to years of extensive use and the immense pressure of heavy trains, these rails had reached the end of their service life. This often created risks of track fractures or weld failures. Upgrading the tracks was essential to maintain safety standards under the load of heavy rail traffic. The new 60kg rails are capable of bearing significantly more weight, and their durability is far superior to that of the older rails.
Enhancement in Safety and Speed
This upgrade will have a direct impact on both train speed and safety. The installation of new tracks will minimize the possibility of fractures and provide greater stability for long-distance, high-capacity trains. The Railway has deployed specialized teams to complete the work across platforms one through six. Given the sensitive nature of the task, it is being executed safely amidst ongoing train traffic. Bhagalpur Junction, one of the most important stations of the Eastern Railway, handles dozens of long-distance trains daily. The installation of new rails on the platforms is a major step toward ensuring passenger safety. The Station Manager stated that their goal is to provide passengers with a safe and punctual travel experience, and such technical upgrades are a continuous process in that direction.
Currently, the first phase of the project is progressing rapidly, and soon, the entire section from platform one to six will be equipped with new tracks. The railway administration has requested passengers to exercise caution while at the station premises and to remain patient regarding any minor inconveniences caused during the work.
