Raid in Goghata Village Leads to Seizure of 6 Liters of Mahua Liquor and One Arrest
Buddhu-Chak/Bhagalpur: The Bhagalpur District Police has achieved another significant success in its ongoing special campaign to strictly enforce the total liquor ban in Bihar. Acting on credible secret information, the Buddhu-Chak police conducted a raid in Goghata village and seized illicitly brewed Mahua liquor. One person has been arrested in connection with the seizure, sparking panic among illegal liquor traders in the area.
The Sequence of the Raid and Seizure
According to the information received, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Buddhu-Chak had received reliable intelligence that some anti-social elements were engaged in the illegal manufacturing and storage of Mahua liquor in Goghata village. Upon receiving the information, a special police team was formed, and police personnel in plain clothes surrounded Goghata village.
Late Wednesday evening, when the police reached the residence of Ganesh Singh, it caused a stir in the area. During the search, police discovered plastic gallons hidden in a corner of the house. Upon inspection, these containers were found to contain a total of six liters of Mahua liquor (locally brewed country liquor). The police immediately prepared a seizure list and took the liquor into custody on the spot.
Arrest of Ritesh Kumar
During the raid, the police arrested Ritesh Kumar, the son of Ganesh Singh, at the scene. The police stated that the liquor business was being operated from within the house. Following the arrest, Ritesh was brought to the Buddhu-Chak police station, where he was subjected to intense interrogation. During the questioning, he reportedly provided significant leads to the police regarding his network and other associates involved in the liquor trade.
The SHO of Buddhu-Chak stated that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the accused, Ritesh Kumar, under the relevant sections of the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act. He will be sent to Bhagalpur under police custody on Thursday for judicial remand.
Police’s 'Zero Tolerance' Policy
This action by the Buddhu-Chak police is being highly appreciated at the local level. Senior police officials have made it clear that the battle against liquor mafias will continue. "Our goal is not just to seize liquor, but to dismantle the entire supply chain that is poisoning rural areas. This raid in Goghata is a part of that strategy," an official stated.
The police further mentioned that surveillance has been increased in all those areas where complaints of illegal liquor businesses had been received previously. Using technology and a network of informers, those who are playing with the law are being identified.
Villagers’ Support and Concerns
Conscious residents of Goghata village have welcomed the police’s swift action. Villagers stated that due to liquor, family disputes were on the rise, and the younger generation was being led astray. However, villagers have also appealed to the police to target not just the small-time sellers, but also the 'mafia' who primarily orchestrate these operations from behind the scenes, using rural youth as pawns.
Legal Consequences and Warning
In Bihar, consuming or selling liquor is considered a non-bailable offense, punishable by long imprisonment and heavy fines. The police have warned that if anyone is found involved in this illicit trade, they will not only be sent to jail, but their property may also be confiscated.
The police administration has appealed to the residents of Goghata and surrounding areas to immediately inform the authorities if they see anyone manufacturing or selling liquor. The name and address of the informant will be kept strictly confidential to ensure the safety of the citizen.
Future Strategy
Intensive raiding campaigns will continue under the Buddhu-Chak police station area in the coming days. The police will use drones and other technical equipment to monitor areas, particularly the riverine regions (Diara) along the Ganges and dense thickets. In this case, the police are now trying to trace the source of the raw materials used for the illicit liquor and identifying the planned distribution points.
This raid once again proves that the administration is firm in its resolve to create a drug-free society. Following Ritesh Kumar's arrest, the police are now on the lookout for his accomplices who were instrumental in furthering this illegal business.
