Panic in Administrative Ranks in Mela Zone; District Magistrate Alankrita Pandey and SSP Conduct Surprise Inspection of Shravani Mela Area, Strict Action Awaiting Police Personnel Found Absent from Duty

Bhagalpur, Special Correspondent: To review law and order, security arrangements, and facilities for devotees during the world-famous Shravani Mela, the district administration has entered complete action mode. In view of the sensitivity of the mela zone and heavy crowds, Bhagalpur District Magistrate (DM) Alankrita Pandey and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) jointly conducted a surprise inspection of the Shravani Mela area on Wednesday. During this, both top officials scrutinized every detail of the route lines, Kanwria pathways, barricading, and security arrangements. However, a major lapse came to light during the inspection when police personnel and administrative staff deployed on duty were found missing at several locations. This surprise inspection by the top officials has triggered panic within the department, and the sword of strict departmental action now hangs over the absent personnel.

DM and SSP Arrive Suddenly in Mela Zone, Panic Among Officials

To avoid any kind of lapse during the Shravani Mela, the top leadership of the district administration has taken the reins directly:

Gauging Ground Reality: District Magistrate Alankrita Pandey and the SSP suddenly visited sensitive and main routes of the mela area without any prior notice. They closely inspected routes used by Kanwrias, drinking water arrangements, health camps, and electricity-lighting provisions.

Strict Stance of Officials: The primary focus of both officials during the inspection was security arrangements and administrative readiness. They also interacted with locals and Kanwrias along the path to gather information about their grievances.

Lapses Exposed During Inspection: Several Personnel Found Missing from Duty

The administration's topmost priority came under question during the inspection of duty points:

Vacant Duty Points: When the District Magistrate and SSP reached various security checkpoints and barricading sites in the mela zone, deputed police personnel and officers were found missing at multiple critical locations. The unauthorized absence of security personnel from their duties amidst scorching heat and heavy mela crowds highlights administrative negligence.

On-the-Spot Attendance and Rebuke: Senior officials present on the spot had a list of the missing personnel prepared. Treating the negligence with utmost seriousness, the DM and SSP expressed sharp anger against personnel illegally absent from duty.

Instructions for Action: Show Cause Demanded and Pay Cuts Under Consideration

Top officials delivered a clear message on the spot that personnel showing negligence will not be spared:

Show Cause: Instructions have been issued to demand explanations from the missing police and administrative personnel. In the absence of a satisfactory response, stringent disciplinary action will be taken against them.

Warning: The officials stated explicitly that no leniency or indiscipline will be tolerated in a religious and nationally significant event like the Shravani Mela. Those negligent in their duties could also face suspension.

Directives to Further Tighten Security and Administrative Arrangements

Following the inspection, the District Magistrate and SSP held a quick review meeting with other administrative officials associated with mela operations:

Surveillance via CCTV and Drones: Officials directed that every inch of the mela zone be monitored through CCTV cameras and drones so that immediate action can be taken against any anti-social elements.

Traffic and Crowd Control: Directives were issued to further strengthen the barricading system and strictly enforce traffic routes to ensure a smooth and safe journey for Kanwrias.

This surprise inspection of the Shravani Mela area by District Magistrate Alankrita Pandey and the SSP conveys that the administration is in no mood to compromise on law and order. This initiative to penalize personnel absent from duty has sent a strong message across the entire administrative apparatus. It is expected that following this strictness, security arrangements in the mela zone will become even more robust, ensuring that Shiva devotees arriving from across the country and abroad face no inconvenience.
