Patna: On the final day of the Monsoon Session of the Bihar Legislative Council on Friday, the issue of the student protest held in Patna on July 22 and the subsequent police action was strongly raised by the opposition. After watching the video, she went to the protest site to console and support the students. She alleged that the Patna IG, who was present at the spot, behaved improperly with her and twisted her arm.
Shashi Yadav claimed that her hand was still swollen due to the incident and that she was facing discomfort.
She told the House that she had gone to the spot as an elected representative to understand the situation of the students and offer assistance, but she herself was allegedly treated disrespectfully.
Questions Raised Over Police Behavior Toward Female Students
Shashi Yadav alleged that the police did not show sensitivity while dealing with the female students during the protest. She said the students were peacefully raising their demands, but police action made the situation tense.
She demanded an impartial investigation into the incident and strict action against officials found responsible.
The MLC emphasized that the role of the police is to maintain law and order, but this does not mean that protesters or elected representatives should be treated unfairly.
Allegations Against Kotwali Police Station In-Charge
Shashi Yadav further stated that after the protest, she visited the Kotwali police station to obtain information about the students who had been detained.
She alleged that the station in-charge did not behave respectfully with her. According to her claim, the officer told her, "Go wherever you want."
Shashi Yadav expressed dissatisfaction, saying that such behavior towards an elected representative was against democratic values.
She questioned that if a public representative could be treated this way, then one could imagine the difficulties faced by ordinary students and citizens.
Opposition Demands Government Response
The opposition demanded a response from the government regarding the student protest and police action. Opposition leaders stated that police must operate within the limits of law and ensure that human rights are not violated under any circumstances.
They demanded a high-level inquiry so that the facts of the incident could be established.
