Name of Bihpur’s Freedom Fighter, Late Viro Singh, Now Inscribed on Memorial Plaque

Bihpur (Bhagalpur): Even after more than seven decades of independence, many heroes remained unsung in the pages of history—those who sacrificed everything for the nation's freedom. In this series, Late Viro Singh, a great freedom fighter from the Bihpur block of Bhagalpur district, has finally received the honor he deserved for decades. In a dignified ceremony held at the local Swaraj Ashram, organized under the directives of the 'All India Freedom Fighter and Martyrs' Family Welfare Council', he was formally honored, and his name was inscribed in golden letters on the freedom fighters' memorial plaque.

From Anonymity to Glory

Late Viro Singh was among the select heroes of the Bihpur region who actively participated in the Quit India Movement of 1942 and other revolutionary activities. During that era, amidst the oppressive cycle of the British, he fearlessly raised his voice against the colonial rule. However, in the decades following independence, he remained absent from mainstream discourse.

His family members expressed that this honor is no less than a grand celebration for them. When, after 79 years of independence, their ancestor's name was inscribed on the plaque at Swaraj Ashram, not only his family members but the entire Bihpur region was filled with pride.

A Historic Initiative by the All India Council

This honor program is part of a nationwide campaign by the 'All India Freedom Fighter and Martyrs' Family Welfare Council'. The Council has taken the initiative to identify and honor those freedom fighters across the country who had been neglected in official records due to administrative oversight or other reasons.

Representatives of the Council, present at the program held at the Swaraj Ashram in Bihpur, stated, "The torch of freedom lit by fighters like Viro Singh is the very light in which we breathe in an independent India today. Inscribing his name on the plaque is not merely a formality, but a reminder to future generations of the sacrifices that resulted in our freedom."

A Huge Crowd Gathered at Swaraj Ashram

Swaraj Ashram, which itself is a living symbol of Bihpur's freedom struggle, echoed with slogans of patriotism on this occasion. The significant presence of local citizens, youth, and school children demonstrated that the people of the region still hold immense respect for their brave heroes.

At the moment Viro Singh's name was inscribed on the plaque, many elderly attendees were moved to tears. They recounted that Viro Singh’s personality was marked by simplicity and a spirit of sacrifice. He never sought power or accolades, but today, with the government and organizations honoring him, society has been shown the right path.

A Source of Inspiration for the Youth

An important objective of this program was to connect the youth with the local history of India’s freedom struggle. In today's digital age, where the younger generation is drifting away from its roots, such events bring untold chapters of history to life.

Speakers at the Swaraj Ashram emphasized that Viro Singh's life is a chapter of struggle and sacrifice that should find a place in the curriculum and libraries of every local school. This plaque is now no longer just a piece of stone, but the 'Pole Star' of Bihpur's valor, which will continue to provide guidance.

This honor bestowed upon Late Viro Singh in the 79th year of independence is a symbol that the nation never forgets its heroes. Even though it was delayed, this honor is a significant step toward preserving the heritage upon which India's future rests.

This campaign launched by the All India Freedom Fighter and Martyrs' Family Welfare Council will certainly pave the way for other unsung heroes whose sagas are still buried in the dust of Bihpur and the surrounding villages.
