Muzaffarpur Junction to Shift Inquiry Counter to UTS Hall Tonight; Announcement and Inquiry Services to Remain Suspended for 30 Minutes
Muzaffarpur: A major change in passenger services is set to take effect at Muzaffarpur Junction on Sunday night as part of the station's ongoing world-class redevelopment project. The Indian Railways has decided to relocate the long-standing inquiry counter from Platform No. 1 to the UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System) Hall. The move is aimed at accelerating redevelopment work while providing passengers with more modern and efficient services.
However, railway authorities have announced that train inquiry and public announcement services will remain completely suspended for approximately 30 minutes during the transition. Passengers have been requested to remain patient during this temporary disruption and make use of the new facilities once they become operational.
Major Step in the Station's Redevelopment
Muzaffarpur Junction is one of the key railway stations in Bihar and is currently being transformed into a world-class railway station. The redevelopment project includes modernization of passenger amenities, improved infrastructure, better traffic management, and the construction of advanced station facilities.
Railway officials stated that shifting the inquiry counter to the UTS Hall is an important milestone in the redevelopment plan. The relocation will create additional space for construction activities and improve the overall utilization of station facilities.
Train Information to Be Available from the UTS Hall
According to railway officials, after midnight on Sunday, all inquiry and announcement services currently operating from the old inquiry counter on Platform No. 1 will be shifted to the newly established counter inside the UTS Hall.
Passengers will be able to obtain information regarding train arrivals and departures, platform numbers, delays, cancellations, schedule changes, and other railway-related queries from the new facility.
Officials said the upgraded system will provide faster, more organized, and technologically advanced passenger services.
Public Announcement System Also Being Upgraded
Along with the relocation of the inquiry counter, the station's public announcement system will also be operated from the new control facility in the UTS Hall.
Railway authorities believe the modernized announcement system will deliver clearer, more accurate, and timely information throughout the station, enhancing the overall passenger experience.
Services to Be Suspended for About 30 Minutes
Railway officials explained that the migration from the old system to the new one will require approximately 30 minutes, during which both inquiry and announcement services will remain unavailable.
To minimize inconvenience, additional railway personnel will be deployed to assist passengers with necessary information during the temporary shutdown.
Passengers have been requested to cooperate with railway staff and treat the brief interruption as part of the station's modernization process.
Second Inquiry Counter at the Combined Terminal Building
To further improve passenger convenience, a second inquiry counter will continue to operate at the Combined Terminal Building (CTB).
This counter will be connected to the main inquiry system in the UTS Hall through video conferencing technology, enabling passengers at both locations to receive the same real-time train information and assistance.
The dual-counter arrangement is expected to reduce crowding and improve accessibility for passengers across the station.
Modern Technology to Enhance Passenger Services
The new inquiry system will make use of advanced communication technology, digital networking, and an upgraded public announcement infrastructure.
According to railway officials, these improvements will ensure quicker dissemination of information and enable faster restoration of services in case of technical issues.
Better Passenger Experience Expected
With the implementation of the new system, passengers are expected to receive faster and more organized services.
The Railways also plans to further strengthen digital display boards, passenger information systems, and customer assistance services as part of the station's modernization initiative.
These improvements are expected to reduce waiting times and make it easier for passengers to access accurate train information.
Redevelopment Work to Gain Momentum
The relocation of the inquiry counter will allow redevelopment work on Platform No. 1 to proceed more rapidly.
The project includes the construction of modern station buildings, upgraded waiting halls, escalators, elevators, wider corridors, improved circulation areas, and several other passenger-friendly facilities, all of which are planned for completion within the scheduled timeframe.
Railways Appeal for Passenger Cooperation
The railway administration has urged passengers to cooperate during the transition and not to pay attention to rumors or misinformation.
Passengers experiencing difficulty in obtaining train information have been advised to approach railway staff, the help desk, or the inquiry counter at the Combined Terminal Building.
More Modern Facilities Planned
Railway officials indicated that once the redevelopment project is completed, Muzaffarpur Junction will offer several additional passenger amenities.
These are expected to include modern waiting lounges, improved parking facilities, smart passenger information systems, upgraded ticketing services, enhanced security arrangements, and better accessibility for passengers with disabilities.
The relocation of the inquiry counter from Platform No. 1 to the UTS Hall marks another significant step in the redevelopment of Muzaffarpur Junction into a world-class railway station. Although inquiry and announcement services will remain temporarily suspended for about 30 minutes during the transition, passengers are expected to benefit from faster, more efficient, and technologically advanced services afterward. The additional inquiry counter at the Combined Terminal Building and the integrated video conferencing system will further improve passenger convenience while supporting the station's comprehensive modernization program.
