Muharram Fair Organized in Sanhaula: Unique Display of Communal Harmony Observed in Police Station Premises

Sanhaula (Bhagalpur): A special fair was organized on the occasion of Muharram in the Sanhaula police station premises on Friday. This event was not merely an observance of religious tradition; it also emerged as a symbol of peace and mutual brotherhood in the region. A large number of local residents and devotees participated in this Muharram fair, which concluded with devotion and enthusiasm.

Police Premises Become a Hub for Unity

The police station premises, typically recognized for legal proceedings, were transformed into a harmonious center during the Muharram fair. This fair was organized through the joint efforts of the Sanhaula administration and the Peace Committee. Children, youth, and the elderly participated enthusiastically in the program, which was held in memory of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain.

The fair featured stalls selling sweets, toys, and local products, creating a festive atmosphere throughout the area. However, the entire event remained dignified and peaceful.

An Example of Communal Harmony

The most significant aspect of this Muharram fair in Sanhaula was the active participation of the Hindu community alongside the Muslim community. People from various communities were seen embracing each other and discussing the gravity and messages of Muharram. Local public representatives described this event as a symbol of Sanhaula's "Ganga-Jamuni culture" (syncretic culture). Speakers noted that such events strengthen the spirit of unity in society, leaving no room for hatred.

Administrative Vigilance and Security Arrangements

Strict security arrangements were in place during the fair. Led by the Sanhaula Police Station Officer, the police force remained fully alert.

CCTV Surveillance: CCTV cameras were installed, and police pickets were deployed to monitor activities around the fairgrounds.

Role of the Peace Committee: Local Peace Committee members worked shoulder-to-shoulder with the police throughout the day and assisted in keeping the crowd disciplined.

Traffic Management: Special arrangements were made to control traffic outside the police station premises to prevent potential traffic jams caused by the large crowd.

Mourning and Prayers in Memory of Karbala

While there was a festive atmosphere during the fair, a deep respect for the martyrs of Karbala was also evident. Devotees arriving from the Imambaras observed mourning and offered special prayers for peace and tranquility in the country. The fair, which continued until late evening, concluded peacefully, allowing the administration to breathe a sigh of relief.

The organization of the Muharram fair in Sanhaula served to showcase the unity and integrity of the region. This event conveys the message that when the administration and the dignitaries of society work together, any festival can be concluded with peace and harmony. The Sanhaula administration has expressed its gratitude to all the akhada (wrestling/procession) committees and general citizens for conducting Muharram in a peaceful manner.
