Motorcyclist Killed, Another Seriously Injured After Being Hit by Speeding Car in Bihta; Protesters Block Road Demanding Compensation

Patna: A tragic road accident in the Bihta area of Patna district claimed the life of one person and left another seriously injured, triggering protests by local residents and the victim's family. The accident occurred near Mahmadpur village, where a speeding car allegedly hit a motorcycle, killing Pramod Kumar (40) on the spot and seriously injuring Sanjay Kumar (50). Following the incident, angry villagers blocked the Bihta–Khagaul Road, demanding compensation for the victim's family and strict action against the driver responsible for the accident.

According to eyewitnesses, Pramod Kumar and Sanjay Kumar were traveling on a motorcycle for personal work when the accident occurred. As they reached the vicinity of Mahmadpur village, a speeding car reportedly collided with their motorcycle with great force. The impact threw both riders onto the road. Pramod Kumar sustained severe head and body injuries and died at the scene, while Sanjay Kumar suffered critical injuries. Local residents immediately informed the police and ambulance services and rushed the injured man to a nearby hospital.

Upon receiving information about the accident, officers from the Bihta Police Station reached the spot and shifted the injured victim to a local hospital. Considering the seriousness of his condition, doctors later referred him to a higher medical center for advanced treatment. Police took custody of Pramod Kumar's body and sent it for post-mortem examination before initiating an investigation into the incident.

As news of the accident spread, a large number of villagers and family members of the deceased gathered at the scene. The incident sparked widespread anger among local residents. Protesters alleged that speeding vehicles have become a recurring problem on the Bihta–Khagaul Road and that inadequate traffic control measures have led to frequent accidents. They argued that timely road safety interventions could have prevented such a tragedy.

Demanding financial compensation for the bereaved family and immediate arrest of the driver, the protesters blocked the Bihta–Khagaul Road. The demonstration resulted in long traffic queues on both sides of the highway, causing significant inconvenience to commuters. Several vehicles remained stranded for hours until authorities intervened.

Senior police and administrative officials soon arrived at the protest site and held discussions with the demonstrators. They assured the protesters that a fair investigation would be conducted and that strict legal action would be taken against the driver if found responsible. Officials also informed the family about compensation and assistance available under applicable government provisions.

After several hours of protest, the road blockade was lifted following assurances from the administration, and traffic gradually returned to normal. Police conducted a detailed inspection of the accident site and began investigating the circumstances leading to the collision. Investigators are also examining CCTV footage from nearby locations to determine exactly how the accident occurred.

Residents of the area said that speeding has long been a major concern on the Bihta–Khagaul Road. According to them, several stretches lack adequate speed breakers, warning signs, and effective traffic regulation measures. They urged the administration to identify accident-prone locations and implement stronger road safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Road safety experts point out that excessive speeding, negligent driving, and violations of traffic regulations remain among the leading causes of road accidents. They believe that strict enforcement of speed limits, improved road engineering, and enhanced traffic monitoring could significantly reduce such tragedies.

Medical professionals also emphasized the importance of the "golden hour" following a road accident, noting that prompt medical treatment during the first hour can be crucial in saving lives. In this case, local residents immediately assisted the injured victim and ensured he was transported to the hospital without delay. Sanjay Kumar remains under treatment, and doctors continue to monitor his condition closely.

Police officials stated that efforts are underway to identify the vehicle involved and trace its driver. If negligence is established during the investigation, appropriate legal action will be taken under the relevant provisions of Indian law. Authorities are also examining all available evidence before preparing a comprehensive investigation report.

The tragic accident has once again highlighted the urgent need for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations and effective control of speeding vehicles. Local residents believe preventive measures are essential rather than responding only after fatal accidents occur. Meanwhile, Mahmadpur village remains in mourning over the untimely death of Pramod Kumar, while his family continues to seek justice, financial assistance, and strict legal action against those responsible. The outcome of the police investigation is now being closely watched by both the victim's family and the local community.
