Massive Rush of Devotees at Baba Garibnath Temple on Jyeshtha Purnima; Over 15,000 Offer Jalabhishek

Muzaffarpur: A huge number of devotees thronged Shiva temples and other places of worship across Muzaffarpur district on the auspicious occasion of Jyeshtha Purnima on Monday. From the early hours of the morning, worshippers began arriving at temples to offer prayers and perform Jalabhishek (ritual offering of water to Lord Shiva). The famous Baba Garibnath Temple witnessed the largest gathering, where more than 15,000 devotees offered sacred water to Lord Shiva and prayed for prosperity, peace, and the well-being of their families. Similar scenes of devotion were witnessed at several other Shiva temples and religious shrines throughout the district.

The temple premises echoed with chants of "Har Har Mahadev" and "Bol Bam" as devotees carrying holy Ganga water, milk, bel leaves, dhatura flowers, sandalwood paste, flowers, and other offerings performed special rituals dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Long Queues at Baba Garibnath Temple Since Early Morning

Preparations for Jyeshtha Purnima began well before dawn. Devotees started arriving at Baba Garibnath Temple as early as 3:00 a.m. As soon as the temple gates opened, long queues formed outside the shrine.

To manage the large crowd, the temple committee and district administration made special arrangements. Barricades were installed to ensure an orderly flow of devotees, while volunteers assisted visitors throughout the day. Separate arrangements were also made for women, senior citizens, and differently-abled devotees to facilitate smooth darshan and worship.

More Than 15,000 Devotees Perform Jalabhishek

According to temple authorities, over 15,000 devotees performed Jalabhishek at Baba Garibnath Temple during the day. Apart from local residents, worshippers also arrived from neighboring districts, including Vaishali, Sitamarhi, Samastipur, Darbhanga, East Champaran, and Sheohar.

Devotees offered Ganga water, milk, curd, honey, clarified butter (ghee), and sugar while performing Rudrabhishek, a special ritual dedicated to Lord Shiva. Many also organized Rudra Path and chanted the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra for divine blessings.

Heavy Footfall at Other Temples

Besides Baba Garibnath Temple, several Shiva temples, goddess shrines, and other religious places across Muzaffarpur witnessed a significant turnout of devotees.

Special religious events such as devotional singing (bhajan-kirtan), fire rituals (havan), recitation of Sundarkand, and spiritual discourses were organized at many temples. The celebrations created a deeply spiritual atmosphere throughout the district.

Devotees Gather for Religious Discourses

On the occasion of Jyeshtha Purnima, many temples hosted religious storytelling sessions and spiritual gatherings. Devotees assembled from early morning to listen to discourses highlighting the significance of Lord Shiva, the spiritual importance of Jyeshtha Purnima, and the values of Sanatan traditions.

The events also featured devotional songs and community prayers, with hundreds of worshippers participating in evening aarti ceremonies.

Elaborate Security Arrangements

Considering the large influx of devotees, the district administration made extensive security arrangements around major temples.

Police personnel were deployed inside and outside temple premises, while traffic police regulated vehicle movement on key routes to avoid congestion. CCTV cameras monitored the temple complex, and medical teams along with ambulances remained on standby throughout the day.

Authorities also arranged drinking water facilities and first-aid services for devotees.

Markets Witness Festive Rush

The festival also brought a surge in business across Muzaffarpur. Shops selling flowers, fruits, incense sticks, holy offerings, bel leaves, milk, Ganga water, garlands, and other worship materials witnessed heavy customer footfall from early morning.

Shopkeepers said they had stocked additional supplies in anticipation of the festival, and sales were significantly higher than on regular days.

Religious Significance of Jyeshtha Purnima

Jyeshtha Purnima holds special religious importance in Hindu tradition. Devotees believe that worshipping Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu on this day brings divine blessings, prosperity, and spiritual merit.

Many devotees observe fasting, donate to charitable causes, take holy dips in sacred rivers, and perform special prayers. It is widely believed that offering Jalabhishek and Rudrabhishek to the Shiva Lingam on Jyeshtha Purnima helps remove obstacles from life and brings peace, happiness, and success.
