Lalit Narayan Mithila University: Anger Erupts Against the Decision to Cancel PAT-2024, Researchers Call It Unjust

Darbhanga: Opposition is intensifying continuously against the cancellation of the PhD Admission Test (PAT-2024) at Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU) on the directives of Raj Bhavan. A high-level meeting of PAT-2024 candidates and student representatives was held near the Baba Nagarjuna Memorial, close to the Central Library on the university campus. Intense anger was expressed during the meeting against this decision of Raj Bhavan and the university administration.

Playing with the Future of Researchers: Speakers

Addressing the meeting, student leaders and speakers stated that the PAT-2024 entrance examination, the publication of its results, and the entire process were conducted in compliance with the rules under UGC regulations. Despite this, suddenly cancelling it is a direct injustice to the academic future of hundreds of researchers.

The speakers mainly expressed the following concerns:

Uncertain Future for Students: Stopping the selection process midway after passing the exam is completely unjustified, leaving the future of about 831 successful candidates hanging in the balance.

Crisis for NET Qualified Candidates: Especially for students who qualified NET in the year 2024, the eligibility period is limited. In such a situation, repeated cancellation of the process could directly push them out of the admission race.

Wastage of Hard Work and Time: Candidates cleared the examination through a complete statutory process and hard work; thus, cancelling the process at the final stage is an insult to their efforts.

Announcement of Peaceful Movement and Protest

It was unanimously decided in the meeting that students will not remain silent against this dictatorial attitude. To support their demands, a strong protest will be staged on the university campus on July 21, and a memorandum will be submitted addressed to the Governor-cum-Chancellor.

Key Demands

Immediate Restoration of PAT-2024: PhD admission processes, including interviews, should be initiated without any delay based on previously published results and rules.

Withdrawal of Cancellation Order: Keeping student interests in mind, Raj Bhavan and the university administration should immediately revoke this arbitrary order.
