Important Meeting of the Empowered Standing Committee Held in the Mayor's Office; All New Water Kiosks to Be Dedicated to the Public Before Floods, Several Proposals Related to City Development Approved
BHAGALPUR: The Municipal Corporation administration appears fully active in accelerating civic amenities and development works for citizens in the urban areas of Silk City Bhagalpur. In this sequence, a highly important meeting of the 'Empowered Standing Committee' was organized on Monday in the Mayor's Office chamber of the Bhagalpur Municipal Corporation. This high-level meeting was chaired by the top leadership of the municipal corporation, with all key standing committee members, ward councilors, and senior corporation officials in attendance. The main agenda of the meeting was to tackle the challenges of the upcoming season, provide relief to city residents during the heat and flood seasons, and strengthen the city's infrastructure. Several crucial decisions were unanimously approved in the meeting, prominently featuring the decision to hand over all water kiosks (pyaus) to the public before the onset of floods.
All New and Existing Water Kiosks to Open Before Floods
Currently, an atmosphere of intense heat and humidity prevails in many parts of Bhagalpur, making the provision of clean drinking water to passersby and the general public a top priority for the municipal corporation. During the meeting, detailed discussions were held regarding the status of water kiosks (pyaus) that have already been built in various locations across the city or are currently under construction.
The committee issued strict directives that keeping the expansion of the monsoon and potential flood situations in mind, construction work on all ongoing water kiosks must be completed on a war footing. It was decided that just before the arrival of floods, all these water kiosks will be dedicated to the general public and traveling commuters of the city so that people do not face shortages of safe drinking water during any disaster or emergency situation.
Special Emphasis on Drinking Water and Sanitation
The meeting was not limited to the construction of water kiosks alone; extensive deliberations also took place on their cleanliness and maintenance.
Purity and Maintenance: Officials were directed to ensure that water quality is regularly tested at all operational water kiosks and that water purifiers or RO systems remain in proper working condition.
Facilities at Public Places: The opening of these water kiosks near busy markets, bus stands, railway stations, and major intersections across the city will bring maximum relief to the poor and travelers coming from distant areas.
Special Action Plan for Flood-Prone Wards
Since a large part of Bhagalpur is situated along the banks of the Ganga River and faces the threat of floods every year during the monsoon, serious discussions regarding flood management also took place during this Empowered Standing Committee meeting.
Wards identified as highly sensitive from a flood perspective have been mapped out.
Directives were issued to formulate a blueprint right away for waterlogging management, clean drinking water supply, temporary accommodation, and the distribution of relief materials during floods in these wards.
The municipal corporation administration also instructed that if flood conditions arise, bleaching powder spraying, anti-larval spraying, and water supply via mobile water tankers must be promptly carried out in the affected areas to prevent epidemic-like situations.
Approval of Other Development Works and Proposals
Apart from water kiosks and flood management, other urban development issues were also endorsed during the meeting:
Road and Drain Construction: Administrative approval was granted for proposals related to the repair of dilapidated roads and the construction of new drains for rainwater drainage in several wards of the city.
Street Lighting Arrangements: To enhance safety and visibility during nighttime, instructions were issued to complete the installation of LED lights on remaining utility poles at the earliest.
Acceleration of Revenue Collection: Strict guidelines were issued to committees to increase the corporation's revenue and make the tax collection process transparent.
The Corporation's Commitment to Public Welfare
This meeting of the Empowered Standing Committee held in the Mayor's Office is proof that the Bhagalpur Municipal Corporation is serious and prepared in advance to tackle every challenge of the upcoming season. Handing over all water kiosks to the public before the floods and preparing a special action plan for sensitive wards are highly commendable steps taken in the interest of ordinary citizens. Translating the decisions made in this meeting onto the ground will not only improve urban governance but also provide Bhagalpur residents with a secure and well-equipped environment.
