Heavy Downpour Provides Respite from Heat and Humidity; New Life for Paddy Crops

Bhagalpur: For the residents of Bhagalpur, who have been battling extreme heat and high humidity due to the lackluster monsoon, Monday brought much-needed relief. Heavy rainfall early Monday morning not only caused a drop in the city's temperature but also brought smiles to the faces of farmers who have been struggling with a prolonged dry spell.

Relief from Humid Heat

Over the past few days, the weather in Bhagalpur had become extremely hot and humid. The scorching sun had made life difficult for the common man, severely impacting daily life. The heavy rain early Monday morning significantly reduced this heat. According to Meteorological Department data, the maximum temperature for the day was recorded at 33.4°C, while the minimum temperature stood at 25.2°C. The movement of clouds and the cool breeze have given people the feeling that the monsoon is now fully active.

Rain Becomes a 'Lifeline' for Farmers

For Bhagalpur and the surrounding rural areas, this rain is nothing short of a boon. Due to the sluggish pace of the monsoon this year, clouds of crisis were looming over Kharif crops, especially paddy cultivation. In most of the district's fields, farmers were deeply worried about the process of sowing paddy seedlings due to the lack of adequate soil moisture. Many farmers were struggling to save their crops by relying on expensive irrigation methods.

The rainfall on Monday has provided the fields with much-needed moisture. Agricultural experts state that this rain is highly favorable for paddy transplantation. Farmers who had not yet sown the seedlings are now active. This rain has prepared the soil's fertility and created an environment conducive to transplantation, which will now allow paddy cultivation to gain momentum.

Advice from Agricultural Scientists

Experts from the Agriculture University in Sabour have advised farmers to take maximum advantage of this rainfall. Dr. Virendra Kumar (Nodal Officer, Gramin Krishi Mausam Seva) stated, "Although the rain has reduced farmers' concerns, they should continuously keep an eye on weather patterns. Where irrigation facilities are available, farmers should immediately begin the transplantation of paddy seedlings. Meanwhile, in areas where rainfall has still been low, farmers can opt for direct sowing of paddy (broadcast method) or choose short-duration varieties."

More Rain Expected in the Coming Days

According to the weather forecast, similar weather conditions are expected to persist in Bhagalpur and surrounding areas for the next few days. The sky will remain cloudy with light to moderate rainfall, which is very conducive to agricultural activities.

In view of the rain, the administration has also issued instructions to monitor potential waterlogging in low-lying areas. For now, the atmosphere in both the city and villages is pleasant following the rain. People are hopeful that this monsoon activity will continue for a long time and that the production of Kharif crops in Bhagalpur will be better this year.
