 In a major breakthrough, the Muzaffarpur police arrested a wanted criminal, Amit Singh, following a brief encounter early Wednesday morning in the Mushahari police station area. Singh, the prime accused in the recent murder of property dealer Ankit Ranjan (alias Prabhat Ranjan), sustained a bullet injury to his leg during the retaliatory firing.

The Ambush: Acting on a tip-off regarding the suspect's movement, a joint team from the Mushahari and Bela police stations set up a strategic checkpoint near the Bhautoliya embankment around 2:30 AM.

The Retaliation: Upon being signaled to stop, two suspects on a motorcycle attempted to flee. After losing balance and falling, they opened fire at the police team, damaging a police vehicle.

The Arrest: Police fired back in self-defense, striking Amit Singh in the right leg. His unidentified accomplice managed to escape into the darkness.

The Murder Case: On May 21, 2026, property dealer Amit Ranjan was shot dead in broad daylight in Rohua, Mushahari. Singh had been evading arrest since the incident.

Motive: Investigations reveal the murder stemmed from a long-standing dispute over ancestral land. Singh, a resident of Mahua (Vaishali district), already faces multiple charges, including extortion and attempted murder, dating back to 2018.

Seizures: Police recovered one country-made pistol, five spent cartridges, and the motorcycle from the spot. An FSL (Forensics) team has secured the crime scene.
