Bhagalpur: The situation turned volatile late Saturday night in Daharpur village, under the jurisdiction of the Goradih police station, when the family members of a youth who died in a road accident staged a massive protest by placing his body in front of the accused tractor driver's house. The enraged crowd not only blocked the road but also raised slogans against the administration. Upon receiving information about the incident, a large police force was deployed to the spot to bring the situation under control.

What Happened?

According to the information received, an uncontrolled tractor hit a youth near Daharpur village on Saturday evening. The youth died a tragic death on the spot. After the incident, the tractor driver abandoned the vehicle and fled. The grieving family and villagers were outraged, alleging that the administration was delaying the arrest of the accused driver and the announcement of compensation.

The protesters placed the body at the main entrance of the tractor driver's house and demonstrated for hours, demanding appropriate compensation and the immediate arrest of the driver. They alleged that accidents are becoming a daily occurrence in the area due to the illegal operation of tractors, yet officials remain mute spectators.

Administrative Initiative and Seizure of the Tractor

Upon learning of the protest, the Goradih Station House Officer (SHO) reached the scene with his team. Given the sensitivity of the situation, the Law and Order DSP was also immediately notified. Administrative officials attempted to pacify the family members. After a long struggle and negotiations, the police seized the tractor involved in the incident and brought it to the police station.

Officials assured the family that the driver involved in the accident had been identified and that a murder case would be registered against him, ensuring his arrest as soon as possible. Additionally, they provided a written assurance to initiate the process of providing compensation to the victim's family from the Disaster Management Fund, as per government provisions.

Tension and Security Arrangements

Following the incident, a heavy police force has been deployed in Daharpur and surrounding areas. The police camped in the village until late at night to avert any untoward incidents. With the mediation of village elders and local representatives, the family members eventually agreed to send the body for a post-mortem. The police have appealed to the public not to take the law into their own hands and to cooperate with the investigation process.

Warning from Villagers

The protesting villagers stated that this is not the first such incident. The operation of speeding tractors has become a serious problem in this region. The villagers have warned that if the accused driver is not arrested within the next 48 hours and strict road safety measures are not implemented, they will be compelled to launch a major protest at the district headquarters.
